This poem, Crosses, brings us once again to the cemetery and our remembrance of whole generations of men and women lost to war. We hail their bravery and sacrifice while also counting the loss and mourning what could have been.

Thank you for sharing this poem with us and the history of the day in your author's notes. War is horrible and I pray we won't see another one, but I honestly feel our politicians are setting us up for another one.

Great writing my friend :) And a great tribute to those who still fight and those who have fallen fighting for our country. It's a big price to pay to keep us safe. Many have lost their lives just to protect what God has created. Thank you Roy for inspiring us with your gifted and gracious words in remembrance to all those brave men and women.

Thank you for this moving post and for the day of remembrance, dear Roy. Their sacrifices of life and limb will never be forgotten. My family has served and lost in all the major wars, and on both sides of the Civil War.

How many lives are worth youth's (blood)?
It pools on fields yet yields no (good.)
These two words do not rhyme and, in my opinion, throws the tempo off slightly. Other than that, this is a great poem, hence the five. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.

This is a great poem, Roy. Here in America, we are celebrating Veteran's Day in remembrance and recognition of all those who fought for our country.
Your poem speaks volumes of the tragedies of war, the sadness and grief of losing loved ones. I loved the lines 'their youth was spent, their sun has set', for it made me think about and feel in my heart all the young soldiers who died before they could really live.

This is a fine tribute, Roy, to those who have fallen in war. I would like to say war is futile, but I think there are some like WWII that were necessary.

I always wonder if those who make the decisions to fight these continuing, endless wars would do so if it meant they would be standing on those front lines. Would they sacrifice their lives and their children as easily as they have sacrificed those who have given their life already? They send them to war but do nothing to protect and keep equal peace for all in our out country. Shouldn't we love and protect everyone on our country's soil and treat all of them equally....after all they are not God. The Lord considered us all equal and loved us all. No one is better than the next.

virtual 6 as I have no more. My fiance was killed in Viet Nam and thus I wonder, if he had lived, would I have been with my abuser? But Ian loved this country as I do, and so sacrificed. We who loved him, still mourn him. Roy, this is an exquisite tribute to those who lie in graves instead of beds.
