This is great writing. It could easily be set to music. The rhythm and rhyme carry the reader just as effectively as the words. I fully understand why you are such a winner on FanStory.

Thanks so much for your review. You are the third person who has suggested that the poem could be easily set to music. Perhaps it is time for me to explore such an option. Thanks again and you take care. Keep writing.

Beautifully crafted, Barry! I can picture that old man in my mind, sitting on his rustic bench, beer nearby, pipe in hand. You conjured a masterful story here! Now I want to know what tales he will tell. Very well done.

This is a wonderful poem, one I shall remember. The only suggestion I can offer on it is a minor meter adjustment: "when the moisture dims his eyes" (THE adds an extra syllable, and if you omit it, it will match better with the previous line).

Thank you for the read!

Ah, a great dedication to a taleswapper. You did a great job bring us along with you and showing us how the magic of storytelling was transferred from ear to ear. We all know the tale but sometimes we forget what came before books and movies.

Great win. Well earned.

Thanks for taking the time to review my poem. Yes the times before books, movies and the internet. Were they better times? Certainly for the storytellers they were. I am optimistic that we will always have storytellers. Thanks again and take care.

Your poem draws a portrait of a very simple man whose needs are basic. The lines give such a realistic image that I am.reminded of my grandfather and his friends thanks for sharing.

An excellent theme and told with great meter and rhymes. I enjoyed this immensely. Congratulations on the first place win. If I had a sixth star, it would certainly be yours. This was flawless.

Wow. This poem was so engaging I had images of my mother and her siblings, sitting around the card table, telling tales of their childhood and family scandals. This work brought a smile to my lips and a twinge to my heart. Well Written, Well Done.

I try to save my six stars in case my favorite poet posts late in the week.
I had to give it to you though. This is one moving poem. I dearly love your simple, down home style. It's such an easy read. I find myself tearing up at the truth of your words. We can't go to the grave without someone knowing our stories. What would be the point of having experiences? Sadly few people want to listen. They may do so, but few want to.
Great poem.

Thank you so much for taking time to review my poem. Wow, and six stars. I am so pleased that the poem has touched a chord with many people and I think that you are correct in saying so few want to listen. I know I did when I was younger. One of my fondest memories was listening to my uncle tell stories. Thanks again. Take care.

Congratulations on your win, Barry. I knew that poem deserved my 6th stars. Like you, I used to love to listen to old family stories. Guess that is the writer in us, huh?

Yes I guess it is Debbie. Thank you again for your review and support. I note that we are both lawyers as well. It seems quite a few lawyers dabble in writing of some form or the other.Take Care.

I pity the lawyer who does not like to write.

You are spot on there. In fact I actually dealt with a lawyer whose letters were the worst I had ever seen. Not sure how he stayed in business. Have a good day.
