Oh! What an adorable story! It brought back memories of when I used to go help pick apples on a neighboring farm. After a few hours' worth of work, we were promised our choice of a "snacky" apple to eat on the way home. I have never tasted better!

Made me think back to when I grew apples on my place in North Arkansas. I grew the Gala and a variety of others. I like your contest piece. Hope you do well

An enjoyable read I could picture the characters clearly on a lovely outing picking apples, not sure how heavy is a peck so couldn't imagine how big a bag of apples might be but apart from that I thought it an amusing story and a pleasant read. Kooky.

I am so pleased you enjoyed my story. A peck of apples (about 32 medium sized apples) weights about 10-12 pounds. Rod

Your story is nice about apples and a family working together.
I can smell the apple dumplings now.
One name I can recall is, Granny Smith which is popular.
Good luck on your story.

I am delighted you can actually smell the Apple dumplings and/or pies. At an orchard I visited this fall there were at least a dozen varieties available for picking. Many thanks for your praise and all those right stars. Rod

I'm with Stella and grandpa, just shine it up a little and sink your teeth in. A few germs and a little fertilizer won't take away from the taste too much. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Ric, for reviewing my story. In the orchard, I?d have no qualms about freely sampling apples. My wife insists I wash them AGAIN if they?ve been sitting in a bowl at home. Rod

I never worry about worms in apples because if the worm approved them they must be good! Ha ha ha, a fine write Rod and I enjoyed your magical story here, love Dolly x

I love your delightful family story. Picking apples is great fun. We used to pick them from our fields and eat them with salt, sometimes we used salt from the cowlick, ugh. Your story is well-written and entertaining. I hope you win, Laura

I am very pleased you enjoyed my story, Laura, and appreciate your kind praise. I never heard of putting salt on apples. Wouldn't that kill the sweetness? Rod

Salt actually intensifies sweetness. Have a great day ^_^

What a delightful story. Any child who finds a worm in her apple and considers it a friend she wants to take home with her, must be a very loving child. This story is so nicely written with plenty of dialogue and clear descriptions. I enjoyed it very much. Good luck in this contest.

A very nice entry.

notes:

"Yes. I'm Stella, this is Grandpa, and that's Mommy over there petting your dog. ["]

Moments after I'd paid for three bags, all three of us strolled down the grassy lane toward the apple orchard.

- This surprised me. I didn't know who was talking.

"So your Grandma likes to say.["]
