Paul,

What a delicious and utterly delightful ode to the night of dark magic. I'm glad the children have had a lot of their fun already - just one more night to go at my house. BUT I do have the most adorable little 'puppies' you've ever seen. *smile* I may try to post a pic to show off.

This is an awesome, awesome entry for the Halloween contest. Which makes me a bit sad. I have a piece in there, too. Yuck. If I'd seen yours first, I wouldn't have bothered. --sigh--

I'd wish you good luck but I reallllly don't think you'll need it! Go get 'em!

Thanks, Robyn. I'm sure you'll do okay. Maybe you can give some of your puppies away on Halloween night.

Well written with a great rhythm throughout. We Australians don't celebrate in the way you do - seems a great holiday for the children and loads of profit for the sweets shop. Very professionally written, most enjoyable. Cheers Aussie.

Thanks for the review, Aussie. You would not believe the candy displays that some of the stores have just before this holiday.

Very well done. You've managed to get every aspect of Halloween into your poem, from trick-or-treating to Jack o' lanterns, candy to ghost stories. I enjoyed your subtle touches of humor, like "The dentists will be busy" and "their diabetic bounty." Your poem flows nicely, and your rhymes are well chosen. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks, Michele. Just a few more days, and it will be here.

I'm disappointed. For Covid safety, my apartment building is not allowing Trick or Treating this year. I always love seeing the little kids in their costumes. Of course, we bought candy before we knew we wouldn't be able to give it out, which leads to an even bigger problem, because I have a sweet tooth. Maybe you should have listed cavities among the things associated with Halloween! 😉

You're probably right. We bought a smaller amount of candy, but I'm sure there will be some left over, and you know what's going to happen to that.

The problem is that we do know what's going to happen to that and, if you're anything like my husband and me, it's not the kids we have to worry about; it's the adults.

What a fun poem about how Halloween used to be celebrated traditionally. I don't think I every heard those tales and I refuse to watch the scary shows on TV. And these days, the kids don't even come trick or treating anymore. So it's nice to remember with you!

Yes, indeed, Paul, the Halloween is upon us, and the night goes a bit crazy. So do the kids and the harassed parents. I liked your poem and I think it's a great contribution to the contest. I wish you the best of luck. Ulla:)))

Sounds like Halloween to me. I think that you have captured it in details and in humor. You capture the fun and the idiocy. It is insane to eat as much candy and we do. And it is silly to enjoy being scared--to work ourselves us to hearing the banshee in the night.
Thank you for sharing this one. It's sweet.

It does not matter how old we are; we all love to be in child mode once in a while. Halloween is surely becoming the most popular holiday, in my estimation...Great post...John

"And carry home their diabetic bounty" has me laughing. Great use of words to vividly describe the vast amount of candy kids bring home. Your poem captures the feel and picture of Halloween.

An enjoyable poem and thought provoking all those sweets and goodies and all those bad teeth, thank goodness it is only once a year. Seriously I did enjoy the theme being Halloween. We are starting to get more into it here in the UK where in the distant past we were more into Guy Fawkes and penny for the guy. But that is for the past it seems now anyway a good poem which I enjoyed. Kooky.

    Thanks for the review, Kooky.

    I wonder if this Halloween,
Can you blokes trick-or-treat the queen?
reply by Kooky Clown on 26-Oct-2021
I don't think it would go down well in the words of Queen Victoria "We are not amused" that is we could get anywhere near her.
