Aye, stupidity abounds, and he wears his mask all wrong. I'm all for mask mandates. To me, it makes irrefutable sense. However, masks are like tools, only as good as the people who use them. Whoever staged the recital and reception didn't think it through. Mostly, we're on our own when it comes to remaining vigilant.
Thanks for the example of incompetence. Sometimes you just have to laugh at the devil.
Peace, Lee

You are quick! They make us wear masks ... unless we're eating. Why bother wearing masks at all then? Corona doesn't take a "lunch break" when we do. I recently went to a masked art "reception" where no food was served, which, though disappointing, complied with common sense.
Nice to see you, Lee.

Oh no, how insane. I notice people are more relaxed, either not wearing a mask or wearing the little blue medical ones. Those are the ones that have a gap. Good write Liz! I love your
punditry!

This is a good story. Hate these mask. Distance so crazy. Those who have the needles have to so the same. That is senceless. Please let me know when your next chapter comes up. Thank you and thanks for sharing.

I'm not usually a fan of political commentary as poetry. But, what you are describing is utterly ubiquitous and moronic and I wish more people were pointing it out. So here is hoping more people notice what you did.

Exactly. I see the same thing at work (Amazon) all the time. One time a "safety" guy ran into the lunch room and screamed "six feet apart!! all of you should be SIX FEET APART!!" He then left. There was a short silence, and then everyone picked up as if nothing had happened. Since then, no one has come in once to check on it, and it is the one part of the building we are not required to wear masks (the rest of the time we are usually 10-100 feet away from other workers, with lots of ventilation).

I've heard horror tales from the Amazon "Jungle." I recently wrote a short piece about the moral dilemma of ordering from Amazon.
-
I am thinking of writing a book about it. Actually I have started one. Boycotting Amazon is one option though in some ways it is more about certain items. Cat litter, dog food and bottled water ordered from armchairs are the main three items that cause associate muscle fatigue. If people don't buy it on Amazon, they will somewhere else. In 10-15 years robots will be able to do a lot of this work though. Then there is the matter of ordering all this stuff from China. I am guilty too. At least Wayfair tells us the country of origin but supply chains are very complicated now especially since the start of the tariff wars, with work done mainly somewhere else but "assembled in the US" or elsewhere to dodge the tariff. My main annoyance at Amazon is not walking 20 miles a day, icing muscles, taking painkillers. It is the way management treats us like the very boxes we deliver. Humans are not commodities. I used to deride the term "wage slave" but it's not just people being a slave to a paycheck; it is how certain managers think they can talk to us, gesture at us, and dismiss our valid safety concerns in the name of safety. Dumb people are running the show because they have this slogan: "leaders are right, a lot".
-
Post that rant! Spot-on.
My daughter orders litter--perhaps I can convince her not to.
-
At least those items are not made in China so for that reason I don't complain too much ; )

You are so right. The mandate is: do whatever you want. Did the audients wear masks? I have been back to the St. Paul Chamber Music orchestra yet even though I have been paying monthly membership to support them. I don't want to wear the mask at the concert for the whole time.
Well done.
