Hi Liz,
Here in New Brunswick, we have to wear a mask when we go into any store or restaurant, basically any public building. Of course, most restaurants practice distancing, and use extra care in sanitizing tables and chairs, even salt & pepper shakers, sugar containers, and menus. No hand-shaking. No hugs. It's all about safety. And yet, with all the struggle, the virus gets out of hand. Some provinces' hospitals are packed with Covid cases. ICU's are at full capacity. Some patients have to be shipped to other provinces that aren't in such bad shape. Our province is the worst of the Maritimes right now. Prince Edward Island is best. Alberta and Saskatchewan are in dire shape. This 4th wave has been a bastard!
I am really enjoying the Major League Baseball playoffs right now. And the stands are full! Worse, most fans are not wearing masks. It's like... people don't seem to care if they catch the virus or not. But this virus is bad. It's deadly. It will lay you low, unable to breathe. And still, people refuse to get vaccinated. It boggles my mind.
"After serving themselves, the guests nestled amongst the array of seats, raised their cups, and yanked off their masks."
Nicely penned! It is really "nonsensical", isn't it?
Hugs,
Kimbob

Dire situation! Hellish to live under constant threat--Corona Delta is particularly virulent.

They make us wear masks ... unless we're eating. Why bother wearing masks at all then? Corona doesn't take a "lunch break" when we do. I recently went to a masked art "reception" where no food was served, which, though disappointing, complied with common sense.

Masking and vaxxing are hot-button issues that have wreaked ugly dissension. I'm vaccinated and wear a mask only when forced to, e.g. for doctor visits--I avoid places that require masking--I find it demoralizing to "see" people I can't see--I wouldn't have attended that recital had it not been that the performers were friends.

Yeah. What is the use keeping the distance inside the church while during the post-concert refreshments everyone sits close and remove masks. here people have thrown away the masks, except a few old stupids like me ...

Your story draws attention to the bizarre times we live in, with rules being made up (and ignored) as we see fit. Protective measures are not very measured or protective.
(Here in NZ we wouldn't be allowed to serve food in this situation.)

I got to shake my head at this one. It was a Three Stooges mask mandate.
Where do you start! The singers should not have gone down the aisle. The seating arrangement in the hall went against the seating arrangement in the church. Then the participants take the masks off that they were required to wear! What drives me up the wall is the nose is not covered when you have to wear a mask.
Thanks for the telling of the nonsensical tale.
Regards,
Mary

Hello Liz-
There is so much contradictory info out there that it's hard to know what to believe. I had read that liberals are much more fearful of Covid than conservatives, which I tend to believe. I don't know that wearing the masks or getting the shots have made anyone safer, perhaps so, perhaps not. The only time I wear a mask is when it's absolutely necessary, like on the airplane and at the doctors office. I don't think they would be necessary there either, but they want to comply with the government. What if we all told the government to keep their damned money, its not worth anything anymore anyway, and took back our freedom? They can't throw us all in jail. They've forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around. Good post Liz.
Blessings
Tom

Yes, Liz, this logic escapes me too. We had to move our ukulele jam sessions/lessons indoors because it's gotten to cold to sit outside by the water. We were told if we were going to sing, we need to wear masks! School buses are filled to capacity, shoulder to shoulder, yet they have to social distance in classrooms. There are no easy answers. Thanks for sharing.

I've come to the conclusion that no one does the sensible things when it comes to Corona, just whatever suits them at the time. Which, come to think of it, is exactly what we all do all of the time. Suit ourselves. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I have concluded Schizophrenia has nothing on Covidophrenia. It has caused people to act in ways they never would have acted in before. The politicians decided to go ahead and politicize it which makes it even worse.

I just read an article today about the filled stadiums at college football games and no mass COVID outbreaks. Why not??? Hmm, makes people wonder. Same thing with the bike rally in South Dakota, or maybe North,

Another jewel - it seems kind of silly the way we do these things. My building is very strict about masks, so I wear one in the halls and yank it off when I get outside. Some wear no masks. We have had one mild case of the disease, but out of over 100 residents, that is pretty good and I personally think the guy is a drunk - not sick.

I agree with the silliness of wearing masks then removing them to eat. I love to eat so probably won't be attending any non-food events, lol Dissension here too, and anger and arguing and I hope never gunfire. But each side is adamant.
