Snicker...

My mom had a memory for "slights" like a steel trap. I'm quite certain she'd have given the nod at one final chance to give Robert last billing... beneath the pets.

I suppose some would feel sorry for him. Guess I have my mother:s genes!

New York Times, no less!

I got a kick out of this! I wish I'd seen my uncle's reaction. He knew my sister had no human children. The name "Sweet Pea" was a giveaway for anyone reading it.

My mother would hold a grudge so tight it screamed for mercy. She had a loooong memory.

In truth, I can't be sure if my mother was in on this--my sister was intent on listing her pets and the paper automatically puts siblings last--regardless, it was certainly in character for my mother to construe such a stunt.

It's just so rich! My mother was one of those "Revenge is a dish best served cold" kinda gal. Sounds like if your mom didn't have a hand in it...she was applauding (maybe quietly) after the fact!
    ;)

Was that a slight? I guess I'm not up on the writing of obits. So putting his brother's name last, (even after all the pets' names) must be an intentional insult? I wonder if your uncle took offense?

But did you ever find out why your uncle was against the marriage? Holding grudges is really bad for one's health. Yet, my dad is 92 and he's still holding them...

he probably just thought my mother was a witch.

Boy, your parents' wedding must have sparked some drama. 😊

Actually--it was years before they married that he hoped they'd break up--he took my mother out on a row boat and said he didn't like her!

Oh my goodness! What a terrible thing to do! No wonder your mother felt that way about him.

Oh Sweet Pea, c'mon and dance with me, cmon, c'mon and dance with meeeee. Was that Tommy James and the Shondells who sang that? I guess some people are named Sweet Pea, at least in songs. I just downloaded a song from I tunes from an artist known as Sugar Pie Desanto. She's a blues singer. Honestly Liz, in this day and age, some of the names I hear seem to be made up, but who knows. Sweet Pea wouldn't be all that uncommon now I don't suppose. Nonetheless, Robert got to see that he didn't receive top billing. Oh well. Entertaining as always gal.

Blessings
Tom

Oh Liz, I've never heard that saying about the grudge. I once heard a fellow mention that his dad squeezed Abe Lincon so tight he squealed. You are a hoot gal. Have a great night.

That saying is an original Lizism!

Hmm, a strange thing to do, after forty-nine years of marriage and a big family. Who would even remember such a thing or care after five decades?

Also, Robert lost his brother, it seemed odd a wife would choose that time to add to a man's pain.

But, it shows the different things people do when someone passes.

Well, I guess that sent him a clear message about her priorities - and a reminder that women have quite long memories! I am guessing she never heard back from him!. Well written, and humorous too.

Wow. Your father's obituary appeared in the New York Times. Why and how? I'm not too familiar with this kind of things. So I don't know the rules.

Is your father someone important? He left you money.

Well done.

My father was a lawyer. Not famous. He lived in New York; that plus X dollars buys an obit.
