Haha! Well written story of revenge. There isn't anything quite like a death in the family to bring out the worst. In this case, the barb was well deserved. Enjoyable and fun to read. This should be carefully archived!

    Thanks for the topper!

I got a kick out of this! I wish I'd seen my uncle's reaction. He knew my sister had no human children. The name "Sweet Pea" was a giveaway for anyone reading it.

My mother would hold a grudge so tight it screamed for mercy. She had a loooong memory.

In truth, I can't be sure if my mother was in on this--my sister was intent on listing her pets and the paper automatically puts siblings last--regardless, it was certainly in character for my mother to construe such a stunt.

Hi Liz,
Ah, sweet revenge, eh? ...underlined in red, no less.
That would fix old Robbie. He was remembered after Nancy's dog and cats. A "last, but not least" recognition. I bet she slept well for a whole month!
Nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Liz,

So Robert would know for certain he'd come AFTER the animals in the fam? Sounds like a warm and cozy Christmas gathering group! Ouchie. Remind me to never make your mom or sister mad...

Families are interesting groups. They are often willing to take far more from strangers then they are from their kin. I guess there were just a few things to clear up.

She must have been nurturing a deep seated resentment .Such resentments are supposed to harm the persons them selves. But your mother seems to be alright.Revenge is a strong word .i think it was a bit of 'giving it back' when she got a chance...

It's amazing how little things can irritate and remain unresolved in our collective, (although I've tried to deal with mine, it's tough, they whisper their nonsense in our ears, heh heh) but this is a classic, I guess most people couldn't be bothered. Beautifully written Liz, blessings Roy

Well they do say that what goes around comes around. I wonder what you uncle had to say about it. Did he get it? Was he offended or did he see the humor in it? Your posts always make me smile.

Of course pets are family members, even more so to childless women. This shows a vindictive woman with a long memory, not a good quality for family harmony, unless the brother-in-law has a terrific sense of humour to appreciate the point-scoring.

I'm guessing your mother didn't see much of Robert over the years? It's too bad he'd tried to talk his brother out of marrying her. It seems like it worked out fine. Also too made that she carried that knowledge with her until this day. I wonder if Robert even cared. Funny. Thanks for sharing.

This is too funny. I think of my pets as family members. I hope your father would have approved. Sometimes people take themselves too seriously. I enjoyed reading and thank you for sharing.
