That's a good one, Wendy. You say you are not very brave. I would say that you are quite brave. In your job, you are facing death every day. What do you say to those people? I have visited nursing homes and read some of my poems to those who are facing death. There is always a very positive response.

Thank you Paul for your thoughtful and encouraging review. At present I am making photo books ( memory books for the children of their mothers for later on) because of Covid restrictions on visiting those with severely compromised health. Basically I try to be intuitive about and responsive to whatever they want to talk about, sometimes the past, other times the future. Before, if they were able, a drive or short outing into a pretty area was always nice. Thank you again.

Compelling and thought-provoking--yet, most of us don't want to think about it. As to the process--pain control to the max! As to the endpoint--I hope there is no afterlife.

Thank you Liz for sharing your thoughts. A reflective review. You are right in saying that most people don?t want to talk about it, (even my adult kids) and yet ? dying is an unavoidable part of life.

I'm afraid people are stubborn, they refuse to believe, despite the holes in science's explanations of evolution, and their ignoring all the evidence of Godlessness, they by enlarge keep disbelieving. "You are without excuse o man." Romans 1:20. Beautifully written Wendy, blessings Roy
Typo : at (the) end of (the) earthly race. One shouldn't sacrifice grammar and omit definite articles for syllable count Wendy. Suggestion : the end of Earth's race.

Thank you Roy for your thoughtful review and also suggestions. (I actually didn?t keep a consistent syllable count throughout. Nevertheless I will go back and have a look.)

This is a very thoughtful verse. It's great that you have been a palliative care volunteer. My wife worked as a hospice social worker for six years. It is a difficult role to deal with the patient and the family.

I love your thought processes.
You are right, no one welcomes the prospect of pain.
Looking at the world today leads me, (at least) to understand more forceably that this world truly is not my home - and this has changed a lot of my thinking and my attitude. To this extent my focus is now on Our Lord's return where true justice will reign.
Yes, we want as many as we can convince there also - love that line,
"I want them there one day also."

The construction of the poem with every second, third and fourth line rhyme is new to me - but it is effective. Is there a name for this type of construction?

Warmly,
Juliette

Hi Juliette, thank you for your wonderful review. Greatly appreciated and valued, both your words and the six stars. I really just made up the structure as I went. I am not really a "proper" poet so don?t let myself be constrained by rules or formats. That is both a bad thing and a good thing!
Like you, my thinking has changed a lot as I get older and I am looking forward to being with Him more than anything. This world has no or very little attraction, only the blessing of children and grandchildren and the joy they bring.

So we could call this type of rhyme 'Wendy creation' or something of your choice.
    It works!

This is a positive and uplifting write Wendy and I have never thought of dying joyfully as I praise life so much I never want to die, but I expect we all have to accept our fate as we cannot cheat death, so we may as well embrace it, a fine write Wendy, thoughtful and poignant, love Dolly x

Thank you Dolly for your very thoughtful review. Yes, I embrace and enjoy life too, especially family and nature, but it?s important to me to also prepare well to die well. It was a reflection on the funeral as much as anything, and the life and earthly achievements of the person.

You did a great job with your thoughtful poem, Wendy. I enjoyed reading it. Your lines flow well with good end rhymes. You expressed your thoughts and feelings well. Your notes add more information. You give readers much to think about in a good way.
Respectfully, Jan

It is good to know these are just thoughts! You have done very well with this and have pointed out some salient thoughts we should all consider. I personally just don't want to have to face it you...nor you, beloved Poet!

Wendy,

What a job. I don't envy you. I can't imagine that every day is a pleasant one though I am sure you must find that very rewarding. This post shares some honest things that we should all take the time to consider. Thanks!

    Thank you Robyn. Lovely review.
It is just a volunteer role, once a week. But with Covid restrictions on visits to severely health compromised people it has lately been interacting from home, making photo books of memories for the children "for later", this is rewarding too.
Visits can be challenging and tiring, very emotionally wearing. Thank you again.

I attempt to have that discussion with my husband but he refuses. I guess he feels if we discuss it then we are willing it to happen. I've mentioned it doesn't happen like that, but... Anyway, I enjoyed reading your poem. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Barbara, for your lovely review and thoughts. My adult children are like that, don?t want to talk about it. But I think it makes the dying process easier ?.
