Oh how sad... How brave she was to present herself in a contented manner and give her daughter and new son-in-law the gift of rejoicing in their union! I'm so glad you two connected. I'm so happy she was here for the wedding! As for the grandchild to be? I guess you'll have to love him or her TWICE as much! Tears here...

It was a poignant occasion. Teri was stressed all summer, wondering whether her mother would survive to attend the wedding.

I'm aware that most couples watch their own vows. I've seen many weddings on "The Bold and the Beautiful." Though the couples are well-meaning, they usually end up in divorce and have to get married all over again. Interesting that your son and his bride are eager to start a family right away, as most couples want to postpone. This must have been a bittersweet occasion, as the mother of the bride has cancer. Happy future for the bride and groom, and it sounds like you're pleased with the prospect of being a grandmother. judi

Liz,

That makes for an even more compelling meeting. And parting. I imagine the impressions will last quite a long time and I am so glad she did not come off as expected. Lovely.

I am sorry to hear about Mary. Cancer is a horrible disease and doesn't discriminate. I was happy to read the wedding went off without a hitch. I am also happy to hear you might be a grandma soon. You should enjoy that. It's my favorite role.

Hello Liz. Your narrative in this story is quite good. The story itself is heart rending in the description of the sights, words, and emotions of the day. the moral of the story demonstrates joy can be found amid tragedy. The moments intensify.

Well told.

Robert

It's making the best of a tragic situation. It's a shame that Teri and Dan didn't understand the effort Mary had put forth just to be able to be at their wedding. My father-in-law was at our wedding (terminally ill) and he passed away four days later... We must appreciate the little time we have with our family. Can't wait to hear your wild descriptions of being a grandma. LOL

Hugs, Carol

Congratulations to you, Liz, Mother of the Groom. It sounded like the wedding was awesome fro the details you provided. I'm happy for the bride's mother that she was able to attend. With her health, I believe she got a tiny boost with the day's activities. Soon we will be referring to you as Grandma Liz.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Where are those sixes when I need them most. I mean, it isn't often that such a short piece can put a lump in this gruff old bird's throat and a trickle streaming down my cheek. Thanks for sharing.

Why on earth would that freak you out? I've got five and its wonderful. They live in another state and I see them when I want to. Send them home when I don't. LOL.

A very sad and moving story. There is something more to Mary's character than even Dan and his new bride know. If she flew all the way across the country to see her daughter's wedding when she is dying, the woman took a chance that it could shorten her remaining days.
It could be Teri and her mom hit a rough patch that left some bitterness with Teri.
At least, she was able to attend the wedding and when you think about it, she also could have made the day about her. Here she enjoyed the day and celebrated with love just as any proud mom would.
Thank you for sharing the wedding and Mary's story.
Best regards,
Mary

It is good that Mary got to see her daughter married. Knowing her line will continue through grandchildren is something to make her glad even if she doesn't live to see them. Next Sunday my son Don will be married and his wife's father, who is ninety has already arrived by plane from Korea. Hopefully I'll not get more grandchildren from this union as both Don and Kyoung Hwa are in their fifties. She would like another child, and is still capable of producing one but they have decided not to there.

Kyoung Hwa is over 50 and thinks she can still get pregnant! Unlikely. (Fortunately.)

My mother-in-law was over fifty when she got pregnant the last time. Nan turned out okay, but you're taking a chance. This girl still has periods so I'm thankful they decided not to let it happen.

Over fifty! How old was she when she had her first--I expect she had a few grandchildren before her last baby was born!
