Six stars******Beautifully written. I feel your raw emotions as your lines flow in quiet reverence. Yes many people are scared to go to church. Read mine also. Liberty justice

A faithful and sentimental write full of memories here Janet and I enjoyed the journey.

I have a suggestions for these two lines below as they are out of meter:

(T'was on the aisle in the fourth row)
"T'was on the fourth aisle in the row"

(as reverently we bowed).
"we reverently bowed".

Good luck with the contest.

Love Dolly x

A touching tribute to your mother. At least the church looks still in good shape, even if the congregation has shrunk. Luckily your mother's pew wasn't taken and you could sit there and reminisce.

Thank you Sandra for the kind and thoughtful review. The church does look almost the same except for the people.

Congratulations for this powerful poem! Tough feelings inside are put into words easily by your creativity gently on the screen! You drive readers exactly where you want to: deep feelings that are hard to vocalize but find your words to pack them to others` hearts. Thanks for the ride!

Hi Janet,

Oh this is about steadfast members of your childhood church where you grew up, were baptized and married. Lovely to visit and retrace old memories, especially your mother's special pew. It must have been eye opening how many empty seats were seen.... So many people who do believe still do not go to Sunday worship as they or their parents used to. Busy lives can cause this as well as an increasing number of non believers who succumb to the onslaught of negative connotations about religion and faith.

So many empty lives could be healed by the balm of faith but many choose other ways to try to heal their pains, be it with drugs, therapy, or believe it or not "education" by ill guided "teachers"...

I enjoyed your deeply personal poem and wish you well.

Have a great weekend,Janet :))

Thank you Senyai for this thoughtful and encouraging review. You are so right, many empty lives could be healed by the balm of faith but today, there are so many distractions and people seem to take the easy way.

This poem is written with simple, but effective rhyme scheme. The message is maintained throughout. The flow is good. The images are clear.

A good read. Thanks for sharing.

Really heartwarming. It takes great courage to find beauty in change, and in a situation of potential sadness. You have created such wonderful memories and it is your life that carries on these memories. Great job expressing your feelings I. This poem. Thanks for sharing!

You poem reminds me of when one of our parish family that have passed; we are seeing our lovely church slowly seeing the pews soon to be empty. Your poem is sort of sad, but I like what you said in your authors note-----
God has once again left a small remnant.

The title is an interesting one drawing the reader in to a Faith reflection as to where religion sits, so to speak, in our society today. Youthful memories abide - a simply delightful poem

Your poem shows the impact of faith and how despite a few parishioners, your childhood church still remains. I like how you describe in your words the memories you recall as you visit your childhood church. Excellent poetic form and a smooth flow of lines that adds to the story you tell.
