Hello Janet Foor,
Nice piece of poetry having impressive phraseology, smooth flow throughout from the beginning to the end with lovely rhyming scheme, and beautifully depicting FAITH and its side effects.
In spite of a deserted look, the church still holds life - the spirit of Faith!
The last stanza is particularly noteworthy.
Picture enhances depth and beauty of the poem.
BEST OF LUCK in the contest.

It is the understanding, deep down within, that things will turn out all right for us no matter what the situation might be. That's faith.
Whether you acknowledge it or not, faith is an important part of life. If we didn't have faith, life would cease to have meaning. I enjoyed your beautifully penned poem about your mother and your visits to the church. Thanks for sharing!

This brought back memories of my grandfather who was a vicar. In his latter years, he sometimes used to fill in for the local priest. On one particularly cold winter's morning, our neighbour drove him to a remote and isolated church in the hills. When they arrived, there was no one there except the verger. Our neighbour rubbed his hands together, delighted that he'd be able to return home for a late breakfast. Not a bit of it! Grandpa said cheerfully, "Where two or three are gathered together...", put on his robes and subjected them to the full Mattins service, complete with a 30-minute sermon.

"His Remnant", is an exceptionally well-written and spiritually-uplifting piece, Penned with craft and skill. It was a privilege to both read and review this talented poet's work. To me this is definitely a six. I look forward to seeing your next post.

You've written a beautiful poem, and it's words are touching, with lovely rhymes and a very important message.
Is that a picture of the actual church building? It's very stately and majestic, and yes, the foliage doesn't look like it's fall, yet.
Your author notes explain a lot.
Is Covid keeping the congregation away? Or are the "reasons old and new" much more varied -- or is it more of the faithlessness that has afflicted many in our country, and in our world -- while in countries where persecution runs hot, faith only multiplies?
My church has not gathered in person, since the pandemic began; our meetings have been online (even though many other churches in our denomination have returned to their buildings).
Some haven't taken to online worship, or have parted ways with us for other reasons.
It has fallen to me, to send out a weekly email on Saturday mornings, to the congregation, and I always like to include a different Bible verse, or set of verses. I was led last night to include these verses about a remnant:
"13 Throughout the earth the story is the same-- only a remnant is left, like the stray olives left on the tree or the few grapes left on the vine after harvest.
14 But all who are left shout and sing for joy. Those in the west praise the Lord's majesty.
15 In eastern lands, give glory to the Lord. In the lands beyond the sea, praise the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
23 Then the glory of the moon will wane, and the brightness of the sun will fade, for the Lord of Heaven's Armies will rule on Mount Zion. He will rule in great glory in Jerusalem, in the sight of all the leaders of his people."
Isaiah 24:13â?-â?¬15â?, â?¬23 NLT
My pastor also preached a sermon, quite recently, about a remnant.
I couldn't include the entire chapter quoted above, because it was too long, but it's worth reading.

Thank you Mary Kay for the wonderful review.
It's not a picture of the actual church but it looks very much like this church. The congregation has been in decline for years now but I'm sure Covid has taken it's tole as well.

Our church here in NC is meeting in person again but with about 1/3 of regular attendance. So many of the young families have not come back to the service so we also do streaming. That is great what you do by sending out scriptures to your congregation.

Blessings and have a great day.

You're very welcome, Janet. We're thinking of having a hybrid service as well, but it will require considerable preparation. Thanks for all your thoughtful comments. God bless you, too! Love, Mary Kay xoxo

I really love this poem. You mentioned remnant in your poem. You know, it's strange, but there's a lot of talk recently about God's remnant. It seems only true believers are saying it. Don't know what it could mean, but it made me want to give it a sixer. Not that it didn't deserve it without the word, it did. :))

This was really powerful. I held tears as I read how you looked at your late mother's pew - I lost mine 15 years ago and mourn her every day.

It is always good to visit your grassroots. This is were we came from. Good descriptive imagery and visuals, and I loved your artwork.

Thank you for your scriptural references too, they help understand what this poem is about. Good luck in the contest.

Unfortunately, Janet, our present government discourages rather than encourages Christianity. Our country and the people were more together when God was the cornerstone of America. Again, unfortunately, that cornerstone has been gradually chipped away over time. Exceptional.

This is a lovely poem about returning to your childhood church, into the pew your mother once use, and the memories that it held for you. Well told Janet,
cheers.

Your faith poem is very beautiful and I enjoyed it very much. I felt sad and hopeful at the same time while reading it. The memories you shared were sentimental and bittersweet. I often reminisce about days long past and wish it could be like the old times again. However, one need remember there's still a bright future ahead one this earth and in Heaven. I believe your poem expresses this theme quite well.
