I am blessed to have never been fired but this is a great senryu! My glass has, though, often been filled with empty sky and for me, that is when I turn to the Lord and ask Him to fill it with His wondrous love.

Again, a short one that grabs my attention. The last line did it. Empty Sky ought to be the name of a wine. There's a winery just up the road from me. I think I'll run that by them.

5/6/4 Senryu for the Haiku Club Event
After Getting Fired
Senryu I found no joy drinking air from an empty wine glass
after finding I'm not wanted.

Comment from Dr. Nad
Life takes on many different forms of tragedy. What I take from this poem is that in spite of being ripped from a job and vocation that has provided financial backing for such pleasures is drinking wine, the recipient has just been invited to check out the wide open skies that light above and beyond the old stagnant sense of security. How's that for one ridiculously long sentence?

Very fine poem catching the emotions of being fired. If fired or laid-off you have to examine your situation carefully of what you need to do until you get a job. Also being fired can leave you empty and vacant before the emotions of sadness, anger, or doubt about what to do next.
Very well said and written.
Regards,
Mary

That is thought-provoking! I like the contrast of "fill" with "empty sky." I wonder if the glasses were full of wine at one point and by drinking it all, the glasses reflect the sky, which is empty of future dreams because of the loss of work. Great senryu!!

This 5-7-5, After Getting Fired, has the right set up and fills this long-stemmed glass with the sarcasm left to the unemployed. Hopefully the sky has body and a fine bouquet.

Another fine poem, Gypsy--"Empty Sky" isn't a very good product name in my opinion; better something like "Crockolia Vineyards," or something like that; just a suggestion. Something that let's the consumer one hell of a buzz is coming!
