Hello, after receiving a glowing and glittering review from you for my piece "The Answer," I came to check out your profile. I love your focus on the shorter pieces. It takes talent to pack significant meaning and emotion into so few syllables. You have many poems that I enjoyed reading, but my six is going for this one. It's lovely in all aspects--the words, the presentation, the photograph...

All the best,

    Thanks Erika for such ?a-one?derful review of that short poem. Apparently, the voters in that contest were not as impressed as your review. My poetry wheelhouse does not include longer verses and rarely do I review the same.

    Typically, I use FanArt to pair with my FS posts so I only take a little credit for choosing ones that seem to match with my words. I often slip in alliteration flourishes into my poems. I honestly have no sense for meter, iambic pentameter, etc. So I will keep writing my short ones and leave the longer ones to you and other more accomplished writers/poets. I find that writing poems is a good mental exercise. I often get poem ideas from reading books or watching nature pass me by.

    Writing classical Haiku is a great challenge (especially creating the satori line), so I humbly write in the English Haiku format, 5-7-5. However if you are interested in good Haiku, check out theHaikuFoundation.org web site.

    The best to you. Stay healthy.

    P.S. I never liked poetry in school, but lately I have found a niche in writing short ones as a senior citizen (-;

This six-word poem, Walk Softly, has the required word count and notes the quiet possibilities of man's respect fornature and lweaving a soft footprint.

Ciao poet!

You have 2 votes now.

What I love about this poem is that you connected the forest to the Indians ..they were people that respected Mother Nature and in return She provided all they needed to live and prosper.

The Indians had a great knowledge of the flora.

They made various infusions from different trees using the nettles and bark to cure coughs, colds , digestive issues, gastro problems etc.

Lots of today remedies and medicines are based on the knowledge Indians accumulated over thousands of years on plants and herbs.

You chose a beautiful pic ..just looking at it calms me.

    Thanks Tempeste,

    In composing this post, I had thought about the Native Americans who populated my northeast forests. Your ideas are spot on about their culture and medicine.

    Thanks too for your vote. Pleased the picture had an effect on you.

Forests have a tendency to drown out our footsteps with the density around, moccasins help to lessen the noise too, a fine walk through the quiet forest here, love Dolly x

Moccasins are soft and don't make any noise when you walk across down the path, unless you step on dead leaves. I like the picture with your poem. It makes me want to walk down that path and see where it leads. Good luck with the contest.

    Linda,

    Thanks for the applause. I thought of the Native Americans walking through my northeast forests in creating this poem. Life was simpler and less crowded then. Pollution did not exist on the trails.

I can see the Indians running down that path in the woods in your picture. Hope I didn't offend any Indians. Moccasins will tread softly almost anywhere. Nice job with six words.

    The same image inspired my thinking. Of course, modern moccasins, with hard leather soles, are not treading softly. The forests were less habitated with people, but not animals, then than now. Thanks for your compliment.

This sounds so lovely. I'm amazed at how so few words can bring so strong a feeling and thought. I wish I were in the woods right now, walking quietly in moccasins. Great job!

    Thanks Cristine!

    I wrote this in remembrance of Native Americans walking in my northeast forests 100s of years ago. That quietness was likely more obvious then than now. Thanks for your compliments on this short style poem. My typical style is 5-7-5, but I do like writing poems with even shorter syllable counts!(-;

Gorgeous picture...I want to be there. Very nice six words and I wish you good luck in the contest. It isn't easy to pick six words...I entered also and had to think about it as I shopped for kitty treats. Yours is ethereal and magic!
