Love lifts our hearts and shows us a whole knew world if only we learn to treat it with care.

If each one puts the other first
and neither needs to be coerced,
when everything is said and done,
then two will have become as one.

Words to live by!

Such an endearing love poem! It is very well written and rhymed. I see it is for a contest and I wish you the best of luck. For such a long poem, you have fashioned it well, and your last verse is exquisite!

I loved this. So precious. Too many have the wrong "Matchmaker" I am glad we had the best. No spags and a lovely layout and picture. Thanks for sharing this.

A poem about loving from a wise counselor who knows all about longlasting love. You start by saying that love "defies definition" but then you define how to keep love alive past the stage of mutual attraction. I really liked your evaluation of "Unnourished feelings start to wane."

I just learned about another divorce so this poem is really timely and so important for all couples to read.

One suggestion:
All the lines seem to be in iambic tetrameter - 8 syllables except for
"than love continuing to enchant."
So I suggest maybe:
"than love enduring to enchant." (or whatever reduction of one syllable that you prefer.)

Thank Helen, I see you pushed up my poem with another one of you certificated. You are so sweet to do that. Also thank you for noticing the extra syllable. I thought I'd counted them. I guess I said the word the lazy southern and thought it had three syllables instead of four.

Ah! Well, you could always keep it and put in your notes how you pronounce it. That's perfectly valid, too.

Beth, I didn't know that you write poems. Well I like your rhyming poem. Now I like to tell what part of you excellent poem---

If each one puts the other first
and neither needs to be coerced,
when everything is said and done,
then two will have become as one.
I know such is true I live with a loving husband that our love makes the two as One

Loved the half-rhymes. And no two lines seemed forced with a rhyme. I like what you are saying here and true love is a selfless and enduring effort. Well said.

This is a charming poem which I really enjoyed. It has excellent rhyme and is quite lyrical when read aloud. It's sort of a cautionary poem which would be good read at weddings. Nicely done. Good luck in the contest.

A great love poem with an amazing use of rhyming, meter, flow and cadence. I agree, love is chemistry:

When chemistry makes hearts react
with ample ardor to attract,
then there's a melding of two minds
into a potent tie that binds.

Excellent entry in this contest, good luck with it.

You've beautifully expressed the true meaning of everlasting love in this rhyming poem, Beth. And you shown how we can be fooled into believing it's everlasting when it becomes evident that the chemistry isn't enough. Well done. Good luck in the contest.
