This is beautifully written and presented, Kay. I was particularly taken by the title because, believe it or not, I used to live in Glencoe, Missouri. A few years ago, however, the name was changed to Wildwood, Missouri. Nothing ever stays the same...except, maybe, some Fanstorians who post writings that I consistently enjoy reading. :-) Janet

Hello Janet, I wondered why they changed the name? I guess it didn't sound like it belonged to Missouri? Thank you for reading, glad you enjoyed, it is a magical place; pity about the hunters. Love, K xx

I think Wildwood was thought to sound more environmental. But who really knows?

What a beautiful picture of the buck/deer standing majestically before the mountains. Good luck wishes in the Love Poem Contest, my friend. Unfortunately, I think like you, the killing of such beauty should only be permitted if the killing is for a food source, not for a pair of antlers. I dearly love any land that has all the aspects of nature-mountains, a river or pond, trees and plants and animals. Humans that can pay respect for such beauty is truly a good person. Very well done and enjoyed.

Hello Alie, Yes, I really get angry at shooting for sport. Scotland is grand. Thank you for reading. Even Princess Anne had a deer park behind the walls of the castle, purely for shooting. There was a public outcry and she closed the area and let the deer go. Love, Kay xx

Lovely poem. Most evocative. I totally agree with you: shooting animals should be forbidden.
I haven't been to Scotland for many, many years. I visited when I was sixteen.
Thanks so much for sharing.

This is a wonderfully written poem, full of information the reader needs to know to understand it. I've never been to Scotland, but it runs in my genes and I hear its call. Great job.

Hello Kace. I enjoyed reading your love poem, which in this case, is a love for wildlife and a protest against senseless killing. I would love to visit this special place and see for myself your love of Scotland. Well done and good luck.

Hello my friend, Scotland is like nowhere in the world and the animals are spectacular. I wish they would stop killing for sport. Even Princess Anne When she was young, had her own deer park for sport. Blessings, Kace xx

You made a good point here .Just because one is able to shoot it does not mean that one should shoot at innocent animals. The population of indian tigers are coming down drastically and the rare birds
I have been toScotland .It is an incredible country. I saw that episode where the queen shoots the stag
well written ,my friend.

Hello my friend, Thank you for reading. There is no place like Scotland. The Queen had no compunction in shooting that stag just for the antlers. The English have a lot to answer for; tiger and elephant hunts back in the thirties. We have a duty to protect endangered species. Blessings, Kace.

I love Scotland - it reminds me of New Zealand where i live. I've been to Glencoe and seen stags in the mountains, so your poem appeals to me very much. I hate blood sports - those animals are so majestic and deserve to live in peace. Your last stanza sums up my feelings too.
Did you do that painting? It looks really good - a contemporary version of The Monarch of the Glen.

Hello Lisa, Yes, I agree, NZ has beautiful places like Christchurch, Pity the earthquake took the old church. Princess Anne had her own deer park for sport until there was a public outcry. That painting is the famous one by Landseer. He was the world's best animal artist. Blessings, Kay xx

Throughout the years Royalty people have loved shooting things. Some places in New Zealand organise trophy hunting of deer - I think it is terrible.
The painting is not the original Monarch of the Glen - Landseer painted more traditionally than that.
