Thank you for sharing your story with us. I am positive it will help many people in similar situations. My prayers are with you.

I laughed and said that I loved music and I would be happy for them to play 80's music while operating on me. & All my friends were surprised that I didn't spend at least a couple of days at the hospital but no, & and I tell them that I prefer to be self-motivated. (You can omit 'that' it's extra and not needed in these sentences.)

Thank you, Barbara, for the helpful tips. When it comes to using the word that too much, I know you are right. I will edit them out of my prose piece after I write this reply. You were also right about my post resonating with readers. I have been told I am an inspiration. That feels great to hear!
    Have a wonderful evening,

You have a great attitude. I enjoyed reading about your road to recovery. It seems you took control of every important detail--esp getting off the oxycodone. Your future goals are attainable as you continue to recover. I know your kitty is great company to you, and Sunny knows how much you love her.
Thanks for sharing. Best wishes.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you so much, Jan, for the positive reinforcing review. I love your kind comments and encouragement. My kitty sure does love me, and I love her. Sunny is the love of my life. I will keep everyone on FS posted as I continue to progress. I hope to be walking very soon again.

-Very nice image, Jesse,
and a good story.
-I am glad you had such
caring doctors and nurses.
-That isn't always the case;
some can be very formal and abrupt.
-It's always good to try and relax,
even though the situation may be stressful.
-You set good goals for yourself, most
importantly getting off of the painkillers
before it got too difficult.
-It sounds like you are doing well,
and are happy where you are with
those gorgeous redwoods and your cat.
-Continued success with your recovery.

Thank you, Pam, for your detailed and encouraging review. I appreciate your comments on my journey in recovery. I find it hard to try to relax. I just relaxed naturally, the day of the surgery.
I will keep Fan Story posted as to my progress as I start walking again.
    Have a good evening,
    Jesse

What a joyful story and so worthy of a read. I am glad you were able to get off the Oxy by yourself - something I did myself...some spark lives in you that wants to be "free" and that is well laid out in your words. God bless you, fine Sir, and keep it up!

Yes, Sherry and that spark in me want to walk again...free as can be. Thank you so much for this wonderfully positive review! It is such a thrill each time I receive an exceptional rating and review! I am so glad you liked reading my story. I love how you use the word 'joyful' to describe my story. Blessings on you and, may you have an extraordinary day!

Jesse, your story is so clearly and sweetly told, with no errors of any kind. I read it with great interest, impressed with your attitude and optimism. I really like how you told this personal story, focusing more on the good people and good things around you than on any negative aspects of having surgery. You really are a gifted man and I appreciate you sharing your story with your many friends on FanStory. Thanks and get well soon. MM

Thank you so much, Miss Merri! You are a superb writer and, it shows even in your reviews. You cover all aspects of the prose piece with dignity and panache. I like to focus on the positives in life...it helps me to keep that way as well.
My surgeon is the cream of the crop, and I am so glad she has decided to live and work locally in our small town. Thanks for the kind comments, my friend.
    Take care, and stay safe,

I liked this story thank you for sharing. I honestly don't read much non fiction that isn't plants, cooking, or on writing craft so I don't know if my opinion should really be taken into account but... I feel like there should be more connecting the beginning and end of the account. Not sure if that makes sense but an accounting of a series of events can be interesting but a connection of emotions to your audience would give it more life.

Here are a couple of grammar things I found.
* Add comma - I felt elated(,) as if I were going to have something life-changing happen to me.
* Apostrophe is not needed on decades 80s
*Add comma- That went on for several days(,) with -Starting on August 11th(,) I - many(,) thankfully, near where I live

Good afternoon, Gloria. Thank you for the encouraging and positive review. I love your word choices. I appreciate your kind comments very much. I will be writing again when I am walking with the aid of a walker. I intend on keeping folks at FS apprised of my progress in that area.
I will be going out tomorrow and will hopefully go on a nature trail. I am happy you enjoyed reading my prose piece.
Have a wonderful week, my friend,

Thanks so much, my friend! I appreciate the encouraging and uplifting review! I love and am aware that my outlook on life affects my recovery and, I am so grateful for the friends in my life, who helped me, get through it all! Yes, Sunny was thrilled that I arrived back home the same day of the surgery...I am sure she remembers when I was away for 4 1/2 months, after my neck surgery! Yet, she is a survivor, as I am, also. We are both two peas in a pod.
Thank you so much for this fantastic review and, for the stars...yes, those glittering stars!
    Have a beautiful week, Judy,
