My Life-Fulfilling Experience
by Jesse James Doty

Congratulations on getting off oxys by yourself. I know they are addictive.

You have excellent goals. I love the beach and nature in general. You have a great positive attitude. Well done!

What's great about this narrative is that you keep a very upbeat tone and mood through the ordeal, and that is a good example for anyone going through these kind of things. I didn't have rock music in my surgery, but the crew was very professional and I appreciated that too. I got off the oxycodone after I almost OD'd on it the second day. They prescribed way too many pills for me. Thousands. I dumped them and went onto Tylenol. The physical therapy can be a bit rough in the beginning, but all of a sudden it all kind of clicks together, if you follow exercises they give you. It would be great to keep this going and chronicle your whole experience. Good luck. estory

Thanks, my friend...I intend to do just that...chronicle my progress as I work on physical therapy and do my exercises, all in the hope of being able to walk again. Eventually, with no aid of a walker at all!
In the meantime, on Wednesday and Friday, I walked in the hallway where I live with the aid of a walker and, I am tired but thrilled at my progress so far!
Thank you for sharing your experience with surgery. We all have different stories to tell, don't we? I appreciate your kind words and caring manner of reviewing.
You are an excellent writer and reviewer.
Best wishes to you and have a great weekend, my friend.

Beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

Thank you, Nancy, for your positive and encouraging review. I am glad you saw my piece as inspiring. Your comments are kind and thoughtful. I haven't walked on the beach or nature trails yet, but on Wednesday and yesterday, I walked in the hallway with the aid of a walker for 180 feet! I am excited about my progress!
I am sore today but, it is a good feeling to use my leg and arm muscles in new ways.
I will keep Fan Story posted on my progress and post when I achieve my goals!
    Have a great weekend,
    Jesse

Wow, this piece hits personally for me. I had back surgery two years ago so I know what it takes to get to the place you want to be. And from the looks of it you'll be there in no time. You wrote the piece well. Your descriptors for the operating room place the reader there perfectly. Only suggestion I have is the last paragraph reads as if you have more to say rather than a definitive end. Good luck with your recovery.

Thank you, JR, for your encouraging review. I am glad this prose piece resonated with you. I appreciate your kind words and, I understand what you mean about the last paragraph. I wasn't quite contented with it but was anxious to post since it had been over a month since I last posted. I will take a look at that part, again, and see, what I can do to fix it. Have a great day,
    Jesse

Hello Jesse,
Great news that the surgery was a success. Having great doctors is the key.
Recovery takes time, but in the end, it is the determination of the patient,
combined with the aid and advice of rehab expects who are dedicated and care about their patients.
You've written an excellent story of your journey that may very well help others who may have similar experiences.
When I had back surgery, I did as you did, got off the oxy as soon as possible. The hydro didn't work for me as I was allergic to it.
Even tapering off the oxy gradually, took a great deal of determination. I refused to continue it and toughed my way through for several days.
The mind, body and spirit can accomplish incredible things. Don't give up!
There's a beautiful world waiting out there for you.
I believe you will walk in the sand once again and feel the grains with each step.
Well done, my friend.
Best wishes.
Robert

Hello Robert. Thank you ever so much for the wonderfully supportive review and exceptional rating! I have the best of surgeons who live and work locally in this small town and, I will always be grateful for her expertise. The whole crew was dedicated and determined to do an excellent job and, I am living proof of that. Yes, I am proud to get off the oxys and only take the Norco when I really need it. I began walking with the help of my physical therapist yesterday with the aid of a walker, and I am thrilled at my progress so far! I will keep Fan Story posted as to my continued progress.
I cannot wait until the day when I walk with my toes in the sand on a sunny beach! Thank you for your kind words and encouraging comments, my friend.
    Have a wonderful day,
    Jesse

Thank you for sharing your story. I commend you for what you said"
"I am very proud of coming off of the oxys by myself without any outside influence. My doctor and pharmacist wanted me, for some strange reason, to stay on the oxys longer, but I said 'No, I want to get that monkey off my back as soon as I can.'"
It is so easy for someone to get addicted when they take this medication for a long time. You made a good decision. Hope you reach all your goals.

Thank you, Anne, for this supportive and inspiring review. You are so right when it comes to addiction and painkillers. I have had chronic pain in my lower back since 2004 and, I have been on a roller coaster with the different pain meds, fighting to stay off of them as much as possible. It is always a juggling act. Thanks so much for your encouraging words. I will keep all of Fan Story posted as to my continued progress, to be able to walk again.
    Have a wonderful day,

My ability to regain composure following painful surgery has not, in my memory, been tested. So it may be unfair for me to be underwhelmed by your story. Congratulations and press on.

Jesse, there are so many reasons Jesse for giving you a six-star rating.
First, for your wonderful telling of the upbeat attitude of your surgical team that helped in your recovery.
Second, not willing to continue on the Oxy. The problem you identified clearly, it is a highly addictive drug. There have been questions that pharmacists and doctors were paid to promote the drug.
And, how you wrote of your determination to get back on your feet using home health care.
Lastly, your outlook to view nature, keep friendships and be with Sunny to keep you company.
Wishing you well.
Mary

Thank you so much, Mary, for your detailed reasons for giving me an exceptional rating! This is the most comprehensive review yet as to what you liked about this prose piece. The wonderful surgical team, the willingness to get off the oxys as soon as I could, the determination to walk again, and finally, my positive outlook on the importance of nature, friendships and, my love of my kitty. Thank you for reminding me of the good things in my life! Your caring and thoughtful nature shine through in living color!
    Have a wonderful evening,
