I can relate to stumbling with a written test. I also see the coach's point as well. Sometimes having trick questions is not good for the student. I like how you are joining this couple together. For sure, they will have a mature understanding when wedding bells ring. LOL. Sorry to be late.

Well done. This is driven by dialogue in a very natural way that progresses the story nicely. Thank you for sharing this one on this website and I look forward to reading more.

barbara:

I wish you wouldn't apologize for the length of your posts. They are easy reads because they are so well written. Sadly, the center's saga is not all that unusual in all too many schools. Some teachers don't even have to be coerced into giving star athletes passing grades - somehow they think they are doing the kids a favor. It has always made me furious. Great job for coming up with a reasonable solution.

I agree. My son, Steven teaches high school math. A girls' cross country coach came to Steven and said a girl told the coach she had no idea why she was fail math. Steven told the coach because she hasn't turned in a single assignment. That she had a zero. The coach thanked him and turned and left. These athletics are amazing.

I really enjoyed your chapter and applause for touching on high school academics and sports. My son is a coach and faces those challenges frequently, and so many times there is a resolution just like you portrayed in your well-written story. Great job!

Grades do seem to be important if you are in sports. Education should comes before anything as Katherine implies in this story, but when they can't play in sports its like their world has fallen apart.

That is true and unfortunately the only chance some kids have to make it further in their lives is through sports or even to be recognized at people. Thank you for the kind review.

-A very good chapter, barbara.
-I was touched by your portrayal
of Jimmy and his reading and grades.
-It sounds like he has had a
difficult time learning, but
for some reason, he can do
the work if someone reads to him.
-I don't think anyone has really
unlocked the mystery of how they do that.
-I hope he gets the right help, and he
can turn it around. As you know, everyone
isn't as understanding as caring teachers.
-The rest of the chapter was good, too,
but this part was the most special.
-You probably don't know this, bu
Jimmy Rollins was a great short stop
for the Phila. Phillies back when they
won titles and the world series.

As always, your crisp dialogue keeps moving the action forward. The introduction of the illiterate mathematician is an interesting touch. Different people have different learning needs and styles. The art of a good teacher is to find them.

I enjoyed the story. I really like the interplay of the characters even the ones off scene.

I didn't find much as far as grammar but what I noticed is:
*this comma isn't needed - Thursday morning, when Katherine and Daisy(,) joined
* add the comma here - Daisy, joined Gabriel and Reggie for their early run(,)
*add comma - "I hope so. With your schedule(,) you're going to
* I am pretty sure you could turn this in to two sentences and just remove the but or add a comma - If he just needed a point or two, I'd give it to him(,) but he's so low, I can't do anything.
*add comma- He struggled(,) but eventually stumbled through it.
*add comma- We're both professionals(,) so I'm sure it'll work out."

I made the corrections. I usually fall into the category with commas, when in doubt leave it out. LOL Thank you.

I wonder if he's dyslexic? My grandson is, but he's a genius when it comes to problems. He solves them so quickly in his head. His reading is coming on now that he goes to a special needs school. I'm glad Katherine was told about it, even though she was peaved. She shouldn't have been, the poor lad would have continured failing if Gabriel hadn't mentioned it to her.

I wish something was done about that stalker, I wanted Coach to go and sort him out and get some answers. I would have gone to the police and reported it by now, the idea someone was near my home taking photos of my every move is creepy and wrong.

This was a really excellent part, Barbara, and I look forward to reading the next one. Warm hugs. Sandra xxx

From an earlier post the police is already award of it. Thank you for the kind review. If he had dyslexia, he would have already figured ways to help with the reading. You're right dyslexia has nothing to do with intelligence. Thank you for the kind review.

This is a lovely chapter. The way both of them interact is interesting. With the dance practice and everything it has been a hard day for everyone. Gabriel is a gentleman when he instructs Jordan not to wake up his mother...I love the way their relationship is developing via mutual respect.
