This deserved the win in this Senryu contest. We should honor out fallen heroes in many ways. You did in your post. I can see the same children, at the casket, mourning the loss of their parent because of a Covid death too.

Very well done, even though it tells a sad story. What a tragedy for children who face this situation?

Oh, break my heart ... the image is so powerful and the message so profound that this can't help but touch me and leave an impact. Your way with words is so good, and I love that you used dialogue in quotes. A few spoken words can say so much.

This short poem captures the true tragedy of war--its effect on a dead soldier's family, especially young children. Good use of dialog to express their feelings.
