You have pulled the reader in with this phrase:" For Dutton, they brought back way too many memories of another time, another life he once lived." Room for a 'backstory'. An interesting conclusion: "The first thought that entered Dutton's mind was Adler's heart wasn't into striking out at young targets." So now the reader will want to return.

I enjoyed reading more about Dutton, his sixth sense in regards to crime scenes, a bit more of the person he is. Another good chapter Brett, enjoying it.
Cheers

I'm still committed to following this mystery, Brett. You're doing a great job of creating scenes and building up the suspense. I look forward to the next chapter.

Brett:

Who can explain extra-sensory perceptions they possess, especially if they have not always had them? In many cases, why would it matter if you put them to good use as Dutton apparently does. Maybe this attack on the teen is a look-alike by someone who desires the same notoriety that Adler is getting.

Hi, Brett. It's been a while. I enjoyed this chapter, though of course, I flailed around a bit getting to know what was happening. I know you suggested the reader catch up on past chapters, but we both know that's not gonna happen, LOL. In all sincerity, I would suggest a paragraph summarizing the previous chapter. It takes 5 minutes. Anyway, just a thought.

Only one thing I found that could use attention:

a badly beaten young male laid on the pavement next to the Renegade. [The past tense is "lay", not "laid", unless some one placed him there, then he WAS LAID there.]

I like Dutton. I like rogues.

This is a very good addition to the previous posts and we get more insight into Dutton. We now and an additional body. I thought most serial killers work alone. Hmm, an interesting thought. I really like this story and can't wait for more.

I like the idea of detectives that can sense more than the typical human can simply by observation. The twist of an unexpected accomplice in any crime story puts a good layer on what could be possible in the future of the story. The fact that it's called "shape shifter" also suggests that this is going to be a very tough case. Nice, short chapter, well written with no grammerical distractions or unneeded descriptions. That's refreshing.

Dutton's sixth sense is a valuable tool, probably the most beneficial other than straight out facts. But, who knows how criminals really think, or even if they do. It all becomes a guessing game against Adlers. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

There's something strange that has added to the story, although the boy was attacked he still lived, and Dutton figured that if Adler had wanted to, the boy would be dead. So there's another variable that doesn't quite fit, obviously Adler has an agenda, a reason to kill, and why he is as he is. Well done Brett, blessings Roy
