I enjoyed the beginning and parts of the rest. That you were wishing someone good health came as a surprise and the title was puzzling until the end. I would say the third stanza needs work but loved the "take the morphine"!

Thanks for taking time to read my post. I don't do poetry, but sometimes we need to step outside our comfort zone for a bigger cause. Karenina is an outstanding poet on this site who was hit by an uninsured, drunk driver. Besides fifty-plus stitches in her face and head, she received multiple fractures in her neck. Since surgery, she has lost the use of her hands and can't write or type. My only hope with this was to make her smile and forget her troubles for two seconds. If that worked, then nothing else matters. The two minutes I spent writing this, what I had to say or how I said weren't intended to be the high point. I only wanted her to smile and know I care.

I enjoyed this poem. Love and care reflects in words.
I like last part, the advice to take pain killer :). It brings motivation but still realistic approach to a situation with humor. You surely have poet inside you. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much, Nevia, for your kind words and generous review. I don't know if I'll ever achieve anything too poetic, but sometimes it isn't so much what we say, as how much we care and want to share it. I just hope Karenina smiled and forgot about her troubles for a couple seconds. LOL. I appreciate your kindness and encouragement!

well, you did it again, Mr. I don't do poetry.
I think you have a natural flair. And I feel sure Karenina appreciated your sincere and imaginative best wishes.
Your readers certainly did. Congrats again.

Thank you so much, Katharine, for putting this huge smile on my face. Sometimes, it isn't what we say or how we say it, but that we care and want to share it. Just like you've spread sunshine on this old head. I appreciate your kindness and encouragement! Ric

Ric, I love your way of wishing well to one of my favourite people (you're one of them as well) here - Karenina. I am not religious, and yet - may all the gods help people like that be healthy and happy. It's interesting and sweet to see you write poetry, you definitely could do more of that! Haha.

Thank you so much, Rita, for your kind words and generous review. I'm definitely not a poet, as I'm sure you can tell. But sometimes we just have to step out of our comfort zones for a bigger cause. I'm just hoping I could put a smile on Karenina's face and give her a few seconds break from her misfortune. She's a nice person, as are you!

Five stars for your beautiful caring heart, and for your practical suggestion in the last line. She will be very touched that you have written something for her, especially in poetry form, out of your comfort zone. Well done!

Thank you so much, WendyG, for your kind words and generous review. I was nervous about trying to write poetry, but there was no way that I wasn't going to step in and say something, no matter how foolish. LOL. Thank you for your kindness and encouragement. Much appreciated!

I think that you did pretty well of this poetry. It has good rhythm and the lines flow well. Excellent work! No mistakes found. I like it. Thank you for sharing! Good job.

Hello, Raul, my friend, and thank for your kind and generous review. I'm definitely not a poet, and not very likely to ever be. But sometimes, we just have to step outside our comfort zones for the bigger cause. I just hope it could put a smile on Karenina's face and take her thoughts away from her misfortune for a few seconds to catch her breath. I appreciate your kind and encouraging review!

Hmmm ... so you don't 'do' poetry, Ric. What an introduction! I don't know Karenina, but I certainly understand the lovely intent of the piece.
My only suggestion here would be to continue looking for the 'right' words which may lead you to some more interesting and unusual choices. At the moment, some of your choices are a little over used - an avalanche of snow ... things happen without reason ... fickle fate ... out of control ... hoping the worst is over ... laughter is the best medicine etc ...

Nope, I don't do poetry, but sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zones for bigger causes. And I was hoping a smile on Karenina's face might help her catch her breath and forget about her bad times for a second or two. That avalanche of snow is a fuzzy television screen, not remnants of a blizzard, correlating with something weird out of the Twilight zone. Which in her case was a bad car wreck that put 50 plus stitches in her face and head, and multiple fractures in her neck. She is a poet pro, but after surgery, her hands won't work to write or type. Let's just hope physical therapy and such will help her get back to some semblance of normal. I guess, maybe I should have spend more than the two minutes it took me to write the poem. But, I didn't figure another couple of hours would have helped improve it too much. LOL. Thank you so much, Sharyn, for your comments and suggestions. They are greatly appreciated! Sorry for the novella. My prose doesn't suffer from a lack of words. :-)

An interesting free verse. There is simple language, but some strong imagery. The flow is somber as is befitting the subject.

I have no suggestions. This poem would not be helped with artifice.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much, Dellsworthpoet, for your kind words and generous review. I normally don't do poetry( which I'm sure is obvious), but sometimes we need to step outside our comfort zones for bigger causes. Here's hoping a smile takes Karenina's mind off her rough times for a second, long enough to catch her breath. I appreciate your kindness and encouraging review!

Wow! When I saw your name under the poetry column, I had to do a double take! Even though you say you don't do poetry, I think you've done quite a fine job! I especially like the first and last stanzas. The imagery you create in those first few lines is extremely clever and the fun ending in the last lines really made this piece stand out to me. Also, great use of "F" alliteration in "Fickle fate". This is a wonderful poem and I while I don't really know Karenina I'm sure she will enjoy it and your sincere well wishes. :)

Thank you so much, JennaG, for your kind words and generous review. It's always great to see your name pop up, and I've missed seeing you around. I had hoped to see your for my last two posts before this one, thinking you might get a kick out of them. I hope all is well in your world. I still don't do poetry, but sometimes we have to step outside our comfort zone when a bigger need arises. Karenina was in a terrible car accident and for now has lost the use of her hands to write or type. Of course, lets all hope things are back to normal soon. It's been along time. So, don't stay away so long. It's so good to see you and receive your usual dose of encouragement that always give me a boost! :-)

Oh my gosh! That's awful about Karenina's car accident and injuries. How scary! Hope she improves quickly and makes a full recovery.

Yes, she had over 50 stitches in her face and head, and multiple fractures in her neck. After surgery, she has lost use of her hands and is not able to write or type at this time. Hopefully, with physical therapy and such she will improve greatly. I just realized that two of the stories you read weren't paying you anything. I do have one paying out over a dollar called The La-Z-Boy Boogie if you find the time. It was so good to see you. And I'm sure you are so tired of hearing that. LOL. HUG

For someone who doesn't do poetry, you did good on this. This is so nice for everyone to honour one of our fellow writers who is going through a rough time in her life. Praying she will recover speedily.
