I don't pretend to understand free verse yet, but I like your poem, particularly the words:
As long as my mind
can bring forth the essence of my life, [...]
I will be happy
Thank you for making me want to study this poem form further.

Thank you for reviewing, and especially for the compliment.

I not only enjoyed every word, it seemed as though you were reading my mind! I feel the very same way, my friend. Time, when we are young, seems limitless. As we age and begin to experience the loss of loved ones, time seems unbearably sad and much to short. With each new dawn we come to appreciate that time has not yet expired for us. At our best, we thank God and move through our day making every moment count!

This was beautifully well done and greatly appreciated, damommy. The picture was perfect as was watching the telephone poles go by. I am glad that your words covered both the joy and the sadness. Very well done and immensely enjoyed.

You have strong metaphors in this poem. Most do not do well with trying to use similes, they sound too cliche'. You have used an excellent simile. The readers will be drawn in by your literary techniques.

Hello Yvonne.
We all pass through time at the same rate of speed, but depending on circumstances, sometimes we go fast and sometimes we go slow. The reflection in your poem shows there are good times and bad times. If we could dwell more on the good times, life would be easier.

It certainly would. I try to do that, but sometimes those sad moments crash in. Thank you.

This post is filled with pleasant thoughts, and special memories, counting blessings and storing any sad memories, where they are hard to find. Lovely presentation, Yvonne.
Well thought out and presented. xxx Nancy:)

Yes, all we have to lean on is our memories. I agree we think only of the good. The bad is depressing. LOL. Yes. our kids are our joy. Thanks for sharing.

Is it hot in Sherwood? 95 down here in Sheridan. Maybe we will get some rain.
-
It is! We had a heat index of 109 yesterday. Come on, Fall!
Did you get the covid vaccine? I'm debating. I'm a little scared of it.
-
No. To many If. My daughter took it, and so far, so good. Others have, and nothing happened, but my neighbor did, and it caused his death with a blood clot. So who knows. I hardly go out and when I do, I wear a mask. Went inside my bank one-day last week and thought it strange wearing a mask without getting arrested.
-
Hahaha. I've thought that, too. I'm still pondering. I have an appointment for Tuesday, but I may chicken out. I'm really scared.
-
Now, the neighbor who died of the blood clot was a chain smoker. His immune system may have been weak.
God gave us a strong immune system, but as we get older, then you know the story. The decision is yours. I am not above getting one, but I am not totally convinced it is safe. Yet! I am 83, will be the 5th, and ready to see my King when He is ready, so it matters little to me either way; however, I would like to stay safe the rest of the journey. Just pray about it.
-
I am praying. I'll be 78 in September, and I have lupus. So, I'm really wrestling with the decision. Thank you.
-
Not sure I would get the shot having lupus?your call. The Lord will trouble your spirit or give you a peace

Your poem about the wonderful blessing of memories--even the sad ones--is very moving and expressive. "As long as my mind can bring forth the essence of my life" stands out. (In the line "Time has taken away somethings," that should be two words: some things.)
