You write a lot like Stuart Woods, who is my favorite author. He writes of the wine biz and murder, mayhem, and Stone Barrington, my fave dumb blonde lawyer, and all-around lothario. This is a great chapter and I loved it!!

Grabbed and held--chilling foreshadowing about the subtly menacing Miguel--stunning letter. Sugg: change both of their phone number area codes--800 is reserved for bureaucracies and big business orgs.

Elizabeth did not know how long she'd laid=>LAIN on the floor.

    I was so afraid when I put phone numbers in that someone might decide to dial the number... why I don't know...that's why I used the 800. Guess I could make up an area code...

    Thanks for stopping by and continuing to read and enjoy.

Aha, Hank Armato to the rescue again! You've definitely caught my attention. This is very well written with lots of imagery and suspense. I hope I can keep up with this while I'm traveling. Today our internet was out all day and I'm sixteen reviews behind already! lol

    the same thing has been happening to me... I was three sentences short of finishing a chapter and the internet froze... I sat for over an hour waiting to type three sentences. Technology is so grand!

    PS... where are you traveling too?

    Going to British Columbia on Tuesday to spend a few weeks with my girls and their families. They live an eleven hour bus ride away from each other! Not looking forward to that part.

    Oh great... Have a great time with the family... and yes, an eleven hour bus ride would not be fun!! Take care and have a nice evening...Smiles, Carol

Your story, along with the path of its mystery, is coming together. Elizabeth is in trouble, and now she knows it, and she has been informed, albeit in a post-mortem context, of the Cranston-Newton family, and Mary Hunter.

Minor grammatical suggestions:

It was harvest time before the barrels of Chardonnay would roll off the assembly line.
-->
It was harvest time, before the barrels of Chardonnay would roll off the assembly line.

My love is with you, and I'll be waiting at heaven's gates,
-->
My love is with you, and I'll be waiting at Heaven's gates, ("Heaven" is often capitalized, being a place)

as she screamed, "Jack, I need you."
-->
as she screamed, "Jack, I need you!"

***

At first, when she passed out, I was afraid of foul play, but apparently she was just overcome by powerful emotions.

    Yes, she was exhausted from the loss of her husband and all the investigations concerning the plane crash... and now the letter.

    I was exhausted writing it. LOL

    thanks for your help as always... smiles and hugs, Carol

Oh my. Faith and Annie... Seems they are an integral plot of this intrigue. Something tells me it's not going to be so easy to connect the dots! I wonder what Jack really knew about them? Feels like more!--Karenina

    Aahh! Faith and Annie have a story to tell as do so many of the other characters... some don't even know it themselves. LOL

    Glad you enjoyed the chapter, karenina.
    Take care, Carol

Oh yes! Hank is in this book! I hope you get his wife involved, too. I like the foreshadowing with the coldness and the eyes and insincerity of Miguel that gave Liz the gut-level reaction. I wonder how long she had passed out and if the office was safely locked.

    Of course, the office wasn't locked...she was too overwhelmed by the scent of Jack when she charged through the doors... but luckily no one else followed her.

This is a very sinister chapter, and t seems that dark days are ahead. Your writing is gripping, and it is hard to wait for the next chapter. i didn't notice ant spelling or grammar errors, but then, I was absorbed in the story line, which was smoothly written. The characters seem real. Miguel's character will be further revealed as time goes on. Well done.

As Elizabeth familiarizes herself with the winery during her grieving, she meets the supervisor with whom she does not feel comfortable. She heads to Jack's office to see if there are any answers to some of her thoughts. The surprise here is a letter denoting the danger she is in as well as confirming what her friend had written, regarding his death. The revelation of Faith Cranston and her daughter is in the letter and instructions to contact Jack's PI, friend Hank Armato. She immediately phones him. This has caused her to be very seriously disturbed and more than a little frightened.

    Bravo!

    I am thrilled that you liked the story that much...When I start a new one, I always fear that the reader might not get it or enjoy it as much as the writer intends it to be. Your comments made my day!

I am glad to see there is another book coming. I do not see any room for improvement. The picture matches the story, of course. I look forward to the next chapter.
