That is so messed up; usually, when your son or daughter dies, the parents of the deceased gravitate to the kids because that's all they have of the dead parent; but the Rileys don't give a hoot about these kids. Nice chapter, Barbara.

Oh, I like this chapter, Barbara. There is plenty of great dialogue showing confrontation, emotions and possibly the people responsible for the photographer. Very well done. Can't wait for the next chapter.

Hmm, a lot of things are happening. And it all is as confusing to your characters as it is to us. The problems Katherine is facing from, now, multiple sides are strange. It is hard to tell why it is all happening. We need more clues.

shows the true colors of Katerine's
in-laws and probably why her
ex-husband was the way he was.
-I like how Gabe handled it all.
-They even had the nerve to
upset the boys, and that was uncalled for.
-Gabe had a good idea to go
to his parents farm, let the boys
be out with nature, and let him
and Katherine see what his parents know.
-She sure gets it from a lot of sides,
but one of these times, I am
betting on them changing for the better!

Well, that's an interesting development, isn't it? Were her inlaws trying to build a case for incompetency against Katherine? To develop a case against Katherine and Gabriel's alleged goings-on? But that doesn't make any sense if they don't even like the kids (and kids can detect those things). I guess I'll just have to let you finish your story, LOL.

I enjoyed reading this. These inlaws are out to cause problems. Since they have never shown much interest in the children, I'm not sure what they hope to gain by interferring. Gabriel did a good job of putting them in thier place, but what he said may have made things worse for Katherine.

This, again, was an excellent chapter. Noticed the formal title the boys gave their Grandmother. No love there for sure. My inlaws call each other by their first names no "terms of endearment" unless privately they do?

The Rileys are quite a pair. It was interesting that the boys could see through them. They caught on that they really weren't interested in them and would send them to boarding school if they did get custody. They should realize that with their son being dead, they belong with their mother. Gabriel used the right tone in speaking to them. I'm curious as to what is behind the Rileys' sudden interference. Maybe Gabriel's parents will have some idea about what they're up to. Excellent characterization. Just a thought--as you continue to work on this, you might think of having Katherine's husband being dead for more than six months. judi
