Hi Mary,
I enjoyed your story here, though it is sad with a happier ending. I'm glad your father made peace with you. But I don't blame you for wanting to move ahead with your life. You weren't his wife or his maid. You had a life of your own. And it sounds like you met the right fellow in Harvey. It isn't easy when a family member passes on to his reward. He needs to take the next step in his journey, and you have to let go.

Your story made me cry, bringing up so many memories of my own father's passing, but take that as a compliment. A story has to be told with honesty and feeling to bring genuine tears, and yours did.
You made good use of the writer's trick of starting partway into a story and backtracking. You used the right amount of detail to explain why your leaving was the right thing for you, and I'm glad your father finally came to terms with both your leaving and your relationship with Harvey.
