I had similar ways of dodging homework, mum didn't really care if I completed it or not, fortunately I was able to bully some "nerdy", clever clogs into letting me copy their's, somehow I never got caught! (although the teacher remarked how similar my answers were to my classmate! Heh heh), beautifully done Liz, blessings Roy

Glad you got a chuckle! I had a blast with this one--inspired by a real event--and enhanced by fabrications! Nice to see you.

It appears that Charlie had his own system for distributing Valentine's to the class it seemed quite effective. He wasn't playing favorites by giving somebody a $1.00 card and somebody else getting a $0.25 card. Tommy and Lenny felt a need to explain what they were doing, Charlie didn't.

Preparing the waste paper basket to be the mailbox set the tone. The fact that everybody gave everybody a card was indeed unique. I don't recall such thoughtfulness in my day.

Humor is the food of life. Without it, we would all dry up and rot. You give me a boost every day, and I just want to say thanks for helping me to realize I'm not the only one who's crazy. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Liz,
So even then, we had some pretty lazy kids (and moms). That is pretty sad. I understand most boys don't go in for valentines, but still. Most moms INSIST they make the effort. Even back in the good old days - you know - if the teachers or school request it, you DO it. Duh.
Crazy. Thanks!

I'm curious back in the day, schools actually had art, music and PE teachers and we had real classes. Today we just have PE teachers in elementary schools. Didn't your school district offer that?

I think this V-day celebration is unique to the US of A. I lived in Germany for some time a couple of decades ago and never heard any of my German friends mention this. In India, (I mean India in Metros) V-day is getting popular much to the chagrin of some jingoistic groups. But business is brisk during the week preceding and succeeding the Day! Thankfully there was no such thing as V-day when I was in school and college. In fact, there was not a single girl around. Sadly.:):) As always I find your stories unique and funny. Thanks for sharing!

This sounds familiar. The boys never had time to address valentine cards and their handwriting wouldn't have be legible anyway. I got many card with no signatures on Valentine's day. We did have a teacher decorated mail box rather than a garbage car or fire plug.

Ha, too funny. I can see it all playing out, and the good thing is it will be a lot easier to re-gift the Valentines in subsequent years.
They had all the bases covered.
