Oh Liz, very funny. I love it when fireplugs show up in drag, especially to church Christmas party's. Charlie! Gotta love him. Very practical, but doesn't quite get it. Probably became an engineer. Cheers!

Thankssssss! For the bonus and the #26 ribbon pending. I had a blast with this one--inspired by a real event--and enhanced by fabrications! Nice to see you.

Well written.
I'm with Charlie, though I, before any sort of enlightenment, attempted to figure out which girlfriend liked me the most. I'd already paid attention to which girl got my pretties/coolest card. I thought it weird that we were required to give 'everyone' a card, even other boys, lest someone go home empty-handed and morbidly depressed.
Later on, that became one of my preferred days to play hooky.
Best wishes.

:-) This is a very funny account of just how unimportant Valentines Day is to little children. If only we had the sense, as adults, to reach the same conclusion. Which reminds me....must nip out and buy a card and flowers for the wife!!! Thanks for the prompt. :-) Very nicely written story.

Good to see you post again. I can imagine the effort needed. You're amazing. I loved the image of your youthful old hag (maybe it should have been than I am now). Love Kate xx

Funny--before I saw this, I posted this on the other site and added the word "now"--unfortunately, I don't have edit privileges anymore.

Hey, fellow leftie - I sympathize. Fluff stuff is my passion, so Miss Healy and I would've clashed. 6 minutes, even 10 - I'd still be deciding what colour to use.
Boys are not romantic creatures - you've captured that well in your story.

I think we all know by now that your fertile fabrications enhance your storytelling! We never know which bit to trust as truth.

Seems like the boys of that class weren't much into the Valentine's Day tradition, any more than the teacher was. I used to hate those days. The cards caused much anticipation and heartbreak, often misconstrued. Charlie got it right. lol

It's amazing that every kid came in with a card for everyone in the class. Our teachers tried to herd everyone into complying, but inevitably some people got many more valentines than others.
Charlie is my kind of guy; Valentine's Day is a huge scam and he wasn't having any of it! LOL
Great read.

Thanks for the reminder of those cute little valentine boxes we used to make. Each hopeful to receive that special valentine from you know who. Cute and funny story!

I remember those days little store-bought cards for the whole class then hand-made cards for the teacher and those special girls. It was really fun but in the Woke generation, it has been canceled in most schools. It is really sexist, racist, and emotionally distributing.

Great humor from bane of lefties (of which I am one) to old hag fifteen years younger than the author, to the shinanagins (sp) of the boys, to no fluff stuff.
