Great Scot! Why would they do such a thing, Liz?
It's so hard to plan something. You're at the mercy of the weather. You wouldn't believe how many times our astronomy club has planned a "Public Viewing" at the Irving Nature Park, and it's either clouded over or rained. Its' better to make it a spur-of-the-moment thing.
Too bad they waited to invite the neighbors for a BBQ just to show off their new lawn.
Nicely penned!

Oh my goodness! They were probably traumatized for the next 3 decades and never invited another soul to their home.
I love how you captured the reality of children's behavior at cook-outs (stir-crazed kids abandoned their barely nibbled slices); I throw out so much barely touched food whenever the extended family all get together at our place, and it's all from the kids' plates.
Did the parents of the adorable kids at least volunteer to fix the lawn? LOL

Ha, ha, ha very subtle, if you want free food you better praise our ... lawn:) "As soon as the drizzle dissipated to mist, the Robertsons eagerly ushered us guests toward the backdoor, whilst revealing the true purposes of the party, which was to show off their gorgeous lawn.

Your first sentence always has a way of engaging and pulling the reader into the story. In the middle you build the scene. By now, I am trying to guess the twist that comes with you finely crafted vignettes. This one caught me off guard like all the rest. Well done.

A great funny story.
Truthfully, I think the Robertson's got what they deserved.
They were more interested in impressing there neighbors than making friends.
Good moral teachings here.
I found it could be taken as true as I have neighbor a who spend a fortune on their very small and I mean very small strip of land to be the greenest in the neighborhood.
Tanks for the smile.
Regards
Mary

Oh my goodness, another belly laugh from this! Too bad your neighbours were in such a hurry to show off their new lawn, before it became more permanently attached to the soil.

LMAO! I'm sure this is one of your made-up adventures, but it doesn't make it any less funny to imagine. I bet the Robertson's will rethink the next backyard cookout invitation. Thanks for sharing.

Unsupervised kids will be unsupervised kids, no matter how well behaved they normally are. LOL Thank you for sharing this story. I enjoyed reading. You do such a good job writing about everyday stuff and turning it interesting.

Well, well, what a disastrous outcome. I am sure those children were told to re-lay the sod. LOL. The rain was perfect for the newly laid lawn but apparently, the benefits were wasted. I can't imagine the outcome.
