Love the picture, and was surprised to see a kingfisher perched on a lotus leaf for the first time.
Each word describes the agile movements these birds make drawing the reader into their world.

Debra,
Nicely done ekphrastic nonet about the doings of this small winged creature. I like how is uses both full and slant rhyme.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Joan

I love this poem. It follows the required nonet syllable structure. AND it RHYMES! So cute! It paints a picture, vividly. Doesn't get much better than this. I hope it does well in the contest!

It is indeed a stunning image - and a wonderful prompt for your Nonet, which expresses so well the alertness and the actions of the kingfisher. I like the way you point out the things to the reader: "Notice" and Watch". A worthy entry for the contest - best wishes!

Did you mean surveying? A lovely photo to compliment your contest entry. Our Kingfisher is cousin to the Kookaburra. They are so beautiful with the colors in their iridescent wings, so tiny but strong and fast. Good luck in the contest.

Hello Aussie :) Thank you so much for your lovely feedback and generous star rating. I truly appreciate both.
Best wishes as always, Debra :)

    Ps: I meant surveilling!

To surveil is to keep (a person or place) under surveillance; closely monitor or observe.

To survey is to examine and report on the general condition of a building, especially for a prospective buyer.

Ah, the English language is a treat - one word can mean three things! :-)

Great nonet about this Kingfisher, a bird sitting in what appears to be a flower throne. Very colorful bird on his lotus leaf stalking prey below. With his keen sight, he spots his next meal and I can imagine watching him GO! Lovely format.

I loved: ´his nibble lurks below, watch him go¨. I rarely see a kingfisher in my town, although we do have herons. They are such majestic, agile birds and keen fishermen, much enjoyed Debra, a cleverly formed nonet, one of the best I've read for the contest, love Dolly x

What a precious little bird. You did a great job with your nonet contest entry, Debra. I loved reading and learning about the kingfisher. Your syllables are correct per line, the touches of rhyme work well, there's smooth flow, and good use of descriptive words. Best wishes.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Fine work in the nonet form--stunning imagery--excellent word choice and brilliant rhymes--you deserve extra credit for that in the contest (let's hope)!
