I'm the same way as far as not being able to say "this is she." (When I actually answer the phone, pretty fat chance these days), but I AIN'T the same because my grammar skills do not compare to yours. Lol. (Half hillbilly, half smarty pants here). I liked this story, especially the joke at the end! :)

Thanks for your witty response. This piece was tweaked from my response to a review last year--I was tactfully--and slyly--trying to convey that the "errors" she'd cited (in a prior review) were equally valid.

I guess the biggest problem I've found with "correct" grammar is grammarians I guess it's like any other measure we use to elevate ourselves in our own eyes, is the class distinction it affords us. Those other turkeys should learn how to fly! Blessings Roy

Well done

Oh my! I struggle with some of these grammar issues myself. Some I understand, some I still get wrong. Maybe that's why I write a lot of dialogue. You can get by more writing dialogue because it's suppose to sound natural as people speak. LOL

I like dialog for the same reason--blame the errors on the characters!

Lol. Well that was probably the longest sentence joined or concatenated, as you said, by semicolons, colons, and dashes. As for the retort to Safire, that seems appropriate because that rule about not ending with a preposition has long been defunct. It came out of Latin where an infinitive verb such as scribere was rendered as "to write" in English so one cannot separate the "to" in English became a ridiculous rule in grammar.

Guess there is no preposition at the end of that sentence...just an idiot and a chance for us to laugh at your humor. Thanks for all your grammar instructions but my head is so foggy I can't follow. Running a dumb fever ...maybe I was in the heart too long. Just old! Smiles, Carol

What a coincidence. Many months ago, I wrote a scintillating post called "Grammar's not your daddy's Mama." I wrote it while staring at my desk bound, beautifully adorned copy of "Elements of Style."

You're welcome.

There are so many foolish and silly patterns and requirements in grammar and punctuation, which I know you won't agree. What does any of that crap matter as long as we get our points across. I've recently learned that the old whom and who brain twister is now accepted as just plain who in all cases. But the grammarians will never agree. LOL. Keep us straight, my dear.
