Star Trek was a must for me, even though I found Captain Kirk to be an overbearing, pompous arse. But your story is just a scream! Almost scared the beejeepers out of me.
I have a few real-life alien stories and if I can put aside my ennui for a couple of minutes, I might actually write one of them up, one of these days, maybe. On second thought ... ;-)

But how disappointing that your sister's ET visitation turned out to be balloons! When you said that your sister and brother-in-law experienced an alien encounter, I said to myself, be still my heart, be still. There really are space people, or whatever they are. Balloons??? What a letdown.
But in typical Liz fashion, you succeeded in tantalizing the reader and creating suspense right up to the final sentence. Great story!

LOL!!! Liz, you really had me going then! I believe there is life on other planets, some more intelligent than humans. (Our Prime Minister and his cabinet, for a start!) And some still very young planets that have intellingence on par with us or less. To believe otherwise is to be so egotistical. That's hilarious! I was beginning to think that your sister and her husband actually encountered something. I'm glad they experienced it together. I guess I was a trekkie/trekker so I feel comfortable with the genre but I don't go out of my way to read it now.

Then the fun begins.
You tell of your sister and her husband's close encounter to reel in your reader but their encounter turned out to be birthday balloons.

Now, I'm not criticizing your writing talent, and I know honesty isn't always wanted on FanStory, but I don't think you deserve less than what you paid for, the truth.
This posting has no horror or thriller in it. It is mostly commentary and not an actual a 'show me don't tell me' story.
My recommendations for fixing it:
You can rewrite it, as a story with all the needed elements, plot, characters, intro, body, and resolution.
Or just relabel as non fiction bio or commentary.
This rating does not count towards story rating or author rank.
The highest and the lowest rating are not included in calculations.
