Wondering where Gilmore's parents got the money to lavish all those things on him. He was a step ahead of everyone, with all the things he had. His own motorcycle and a Corvair. Not bad. The part about the cigarette smoking funny. I suppose most youths go through that. I didn't encounter that many smokers among my age group when I was in high school. Excellent description of Gilmore. He's a character who'll stay with you. judi

I never questioned it then. As I wrote this I wondered how his mom funded it all.

Yes, that was kind of a puzzle to me. judi

Good job on this character, Bill. I think it has a hint of everyone's past life and friendships. There is a Gilmore in every group it seems. Most often he is the leader. I loved the lecture on smoking styles. Also, Garnet and Louise, his parents, were Scottish, and both projected with a brogue that made you see plaid. That was too funny. Well done. Nancy:)

Thank you for sharing about your friend, Gilmore. He certainly sounds like a positive influence, in spite of the smoking. Like Gilmore I was an only child, although I never had a trust fund!

A most unusual childhood friend. In such a short space you were able to give me a complete picture of Gilmore but also the personality of Gilmore. I hope more will come from this "introduction" to a character that must have had some significance to you and what you learned at that age with Gilmore around.
I'm new here but you were gracious enough to read one of mine.

This was a neat entry into your book Fifty Days of Friendships. It sounded like fun, except the smoking part. Nice solid chapter. Keep'em coming.

My brother is much like Gilmore; John buys every new gadget developed. I actually had a 66 Corvair. It was a tank as long you had an extra fan belt. What a wonderfully written memory. Best of luck with your writing!

Have a great day, and God bless.

You words have created a good picture of you neighbor Gilmore. It makes me feel that I know exactly what Gilmore is like. I think maybe we've all known a Gilmore somewhere in our past.

An interesting flash-back to the past, and an insight into what young men got up to when no-one was watching. This character sounds interesting and a bit quirky. Thanks for sharing.
