This is a wonderful story. I have had dogs in my life for many years, and I think this is such an up lifting story. There are a couple of area I should comment on. In the following areas you repeated words. The beginning of the paragraph is to help you find the area I am referring to. The corrections I think you meant to write is in ( ) while everything else is what you actually wrote. I wish you well with the contest. Mr. Green.

A little girl and her family push open the metal doors..., We love the children the most, because (they) know how important (it) is is for tiny people to have a best friend..."

Ahhh, this writing was so sweet. This is the second story I've read this week from an animal's point of view. You really made me feel the dog was talking. And I got scared that the old guy was going to take him to the back. Thanks for the happy ending.

Ah I'm a fool for an animal who is a helper. My fellow is a cat called Mugs and in another time was a Guardian Angel. Given the task of befriending humans, he was given the ability to speak human. Your story deserves more than a six but it's all I have. Mabaker12

You did a great job from Miles' POV Mystery Author. I could see everything written and could feel everything Miles felt for his friends and himself. I could never work in a kennel like he described. I would take all of them home with me. I'm thrilled that Miles found a forever home. So many senior dogs are never adopted. Thanks for showcasing the adoption process from a dog's POV. Best wishes.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Hi Jan, thanks so much fort taking time to read and review this. I'm glad you connected with it so well.

When I was in college, I volunteered every week at an animal shelter. Now I do elder and hospice care for senior dogs that wouldn't otherwise be adopted. It's hard, but definitely worth it.

This is such a good short story. I felt so bad for Miles because when his owner had died. It got even sadder because no one chose him. Then the day happened and he got chosen. This definitely gets my vote for the contest!
Best Wishes,

Thank you so much for the read and review, Turtle Dude. Do you actually have turtles? I have some pet tortoises. They're pretty spectacular, lol.

    Have a great day!

Yes, I actually do have pet turtles. Just one, she is a female painted turtle.

This truly made my heart so happy. I am such an advocate for adopting animals (especially older ones) and this ending made me cry with joy for Miles. Such a sweet boy. Older animals never truly get the chance to express the love they are capable of. I love your usage of words like "The Meeting Room" and "The Back" - you conveyed great emotion with how Miles reacts to them differently. I would love to know where it goes from here for him!

Aw, thank you so much for the generous rating and supportive review. I suppose it goes from here that Miles lived happily ever after, but I might ponder a sequel to this story.

    Have a great day!

This was excellent. It gave me a lump in my throat. I wish all pets would find a loving home. It upsets me that some shelters call themselves "no kill "and that just means they send them somewhere else to be put down.

Anyway, I really like your story.

I noticed one typo for your review:
A little girl and her family push open the metal doors and enter the kennel hallway. All of my friends start barking with excitement. We love children the most because know how important is is for tiny
- it is

Awesome. 30 years for me adopting animals - I get it. You gave a dog a voice, how great is that? You flowed and it was an easy read from start to finish. Nothing but simple words and a great story - story is what it is all about. Would love to hear more writing from you. Don't stop because you have the skills. Good luck!! I've only given 3 out of dozens of reviews 6 stars. This is a big deal.

Ah, thank you so much! I appreciate your encouraging feedback and the lovely six stars. I was worried the dog's language might be too simple and cause people to lose interest, but it seems to be working out.

I wrote this while thinking of Miles, one of the senior shelter dogs I adopted the same day he was supposed to go to "The Back." The older ones are just so precious. After a lifetime of being someone's friends and helper, they just don't deserve to die in a place like that. He had cancer and DM when I got him, so he was only with me a couple of months, but he sure was grateful to have some good last days and quiet place to pass.

Your story is well written based on a dog's perspective. I like that you gave it a happy ending, the dog being matched up to the perfect owner, one that could understand his handicap. Hope you do well in the contest.

A poignant and heartwarming perspective from the point of a dog waiting to be adopted from a shelter. I love the focus on the animal's role as a helper. The story carries considerable emotion and provides the reader with an opportunity to be in that meeting room. Fantastic storytelling.
