You have a way with words. Are you sure you motive was to make your daughter start to like Chuck more? That was twelve years ago. I hope her attitude has adjusted by now. This is funny. She must have got the Pet part. Did she think he sex with pets?

I'm pleased to report that Lauren appreciates Chuck--indeed, considers him the father she wished she'd had.
Apparently, she conflated Pet and Ped and thus associated the word into a pervert who molests dogs!
So glad you enjoyed the piece--I had a ball with this one--this interchange is immortalized in our family lore. Cheers. LIZ

Chuck, who is (semi) sane, solvent, and sober. [Scared sober, I remember from an earlier post.] LOL, do tell me you afterward slowed down your syntax! You do strike me as someone who says things deliberately to test the reaction in the receiver, no? I do like your little life munchies.

Your story is a very interesting turn on the word. Pet-o-philia. People certainly do get attached to their pets. Your storyline and use of the word is very clever. Your word usage makes the story fun to read.

Well! for once I am at a total loss for words. My mind is boggling. Rushing off at tangents of lexical absurdities and confusion as to which language I am in... I will settle down again of course, but all I can say at the moment is that I'm really glad I read this, rather than ignoring it for a second time this evening. Love Katherine xx

Well that backfired! This is so funny. It's too bad that Lauren had a hard time warming up to Chuck, but I can understand it too, having shared your disasters and some of her own. I hope all is well between them now.

I can understand Lauren's point of view, but without her father she wouldn't be born, but without his DNA perhaps she might not have MS, no, perhaps I'll go back again, beautifully written, blessings Roy

OH my God! This is too funny! Love the name "puplet" by the way... Your best intended efforts to quell the "attitude" Lauren had as regards any man you chose seemed to (ooops) backfire! Ah! We moms get used to that, somehow... Kids of any age have that delightful way of making us feel less that capable in their quirky, way! My own kiddos, now adultos, hated every man I ever associated with since their "sperm donor" father... I so get it! (Alas, they've come around to love my today husband!)--- Such a story! Thanks for sharing... Karenina

Your opening statement proves alliteration can be quite humorous, as well as provide the perfect hook for the story that follows. Your use of unexpected terminology spikes your writing. Example: "I'd dubbed him Puplet, by which 'moniker' I call him still," or, "Puplet in arms after their 'business trip.'" Well done. But of course. Look who the author is.

The poor dog didn't realize what he'd been thrust against. Lauren clung to her dislike of your men choices, even though Chuck was a dog lover. I think Puplet is a cute name. Sane, solvent, and sober--definitely the foundation of romance. I particularly like the solvent part. Interesting insights in this. judi

Written with dogged determination;)
It is a humorous and entertaining read. Except that it is slightly marred by parenthesis overload. I do not question the author's preferred style of writing - - merely the reader's response to it. I would like the opportunity to upgrade this post's rating. Best wishes

Guilty as charged! One of my trademark affectations is the overuse of parentheses and such in humor pieces, intended tongue-in-cheek for the purpose of enhancing the wry flavor.

I meant to tell you--"Dogged Determination" was a title of a piece I wrote last year and part of the subtitle to another!
