I really, really like this chapter. You have riveting characters and an almost magical way of showing the reader who the narrator is, and in showing us what life is like there. You have stellar phrasing and the action moves along - maybe a little too fast. Slow down and let's see and hear more about the old lady in the wheelchair. Use that magic touch to continue describing the area where the action takes place and the people involved. Seriously, give me more of this:
The Surf Hotel is a rent-by-the-month shit hole frequented by Down-and-outs whose plan for the future ends with their next meal, trick, or drug-induced trip. Then hit repeat. Crushed beer cans and cigarette butts littered the sidewalk along with the human equivalent.
That is gold. Nice work!

Slowing down has always been my problem. I'm trying (just ask my husband. Lol) thank you for your kind review. Often times I fear people just give me false praise because they are nice people. (I'm sure you are nice.)
