We are not on the proper track and you know it, Jaybird.

"Angry mob" or angry mobs?

They want to bring in the military...where we'll have no rights.

Ok, you rhymed this and will delete my review. Can't blame you.

Amen! You have captured the main ills facing us and so succinctly too you also leave us with hope that we can somehow overcome these problems. As always your simple rhymes and wisdom are a very powerful message
All the Best!

You describe the anarchy here as the incident involving the killing of a prisoner has sparked hatred of the Police and the weak borders causing many illegals to enter the US will put a strain on the economy and the socialists are loose with the Government purse-strings. The accumulation of all this has weakened the US resolve, a poignant write, love Dolly x

Concerning these people who love the idea of open borders: I want to ask them how many of the refugees THEY have brought home with them to feed, clothe, shelter, . . . ! Yes, there are many problems, and the number is growing daily. Your poem is well-written and thought-provoking.

"Democracy At Stake" Is a strident call to all freedom-loving Americans. This is a backward glance, a look around, and a peering into the future. For best results all three are necessary. We can look at what has worked and what hasn't in the past. We can look at what is and isn't advancing the cause of freedom and democracy. As we peer Forward we see divergent roads which other nations have taken in the past and we see most of them on the trash heap of history. Thanks for sharing your legitimate concern. Embrace the love from above.

Humanity certainly did work its way into a bit of a pickle. And now is the time to see if we can do something about it. I see this as democracy in action, in full tilt operation, with vigorous debate about important issues, and people sharing differing perspectives. But you are correct any productive conversation is ended when sides become so entrenched in their own ideology they refuse to consider other people's perspectives.

A most thoughtful post today, friend Jay. Many thanks for sharing. :)

I totally agree with this great poem; we must move forward to heal and never look back. Excellent rhyming throughout with a very smooth flow. Your message is true; we as a people really need to get our act together. Thanks for sharing.

Your words reflect our current times. We have many challenges to face but like those who settled this country, we can do it. Excellent poem that makes the reader think and be positive.

Dear jay, In addition to enumerating the many problems facing this nation, you offer at least some sound advice.
Never looking back, is a trick that runners learn if they wish to win the gold, for in the moment that they do that, they may Stumble and fall.

This poem, Democracy at Stake, presented in five quatrains, surveys the current state of affairs and notes that we are on unsteady ground and in need of serious decison-making to secure our way of life into the future.
