Beautifully written and heartfelt. I don't know what would happen if my skin color shifted, but my heart would stay the same, with no racism. It's what my parents taught me. Thanks so much for sharing. :)

I love that you reinforced the poem in the notes with relevant Bible verses. I also liked that you asked the reader to step out of his shoes and race and imagine being a different race. That requires a change in perspective that could trigger lasting change.

I really like your poem and the sentiments you express. Too few people even consider walking six inches in someone else's shoes. I am not a poet and frequently can't understand poems, but yours is very clear, except for line six. It's a jarring line when all else has been so suggestive of working together and finding common ground. Best of luck with this.

What a beautiful poem!
It said to me that we are all created in God's image and none of us is different from the other, regardless of our race.
Ephesians 2:10 is what comes to my mind as I read it, not just the last stanza but the one before:
God created all to enrich the Earth -
Our lives are preordained before our birth.
Imagine ones' self a different race;
Confronting bias, hatred, and disgrace.
Thanks for sharing and keep writing beautiful poetry.

The doctors have said of me, I possess good genes, and I say to them, "I chose my ancestors well" but really God chose them, as He did Jesus' ancestors, he chose Rahab, (a prostitute) and Ruth, (a Moabite) so God is very much into generations, I don't know how come I have been called, when there isn't a known believer in mine bloodline? But God has His reasons! I don't deserve Him. Beautifully written Portia, as always, blessings, Roy

Roy,
All-knowing God knew before you were born that you would be the one chosen in your bloodline to answer this calling; how blessed you are. I am sure you have blessed and touched many hearts here on Fanstory with your poetry. You have such a kind and loving heart.
Thanks so much for your review, my friend.

Amen!! We are God's Masterpiece and so we should all treat each other as that masterpiece because of His Holy Image within us. Thank you for this beautiful message, Portia, and for the great Scripture verses, too!!
Your poem is what we need to teach in our schools to combat racism, not the strange stuff they are trying to teach these days.

Helen,
Thanks so much for your review and comments.
When I was coming up, we were taught to show love and respect for others; we knew better than to be disrespectful. We don't see that very much nowadays.
