I love this. I wish I had a six star rating left. When do they start over? You are right that a scent or a sound can bring back memories like nothing else. There are certain scents that remind me of my grandmother, and when I smell them, she is almost there with me somehow. I think this poem is excellent! It really evoked a lot of thoughts for me.

It's so true. I kept a washcloth belonging to my grandmother because it helped me remember her. Perhaps it had the scent of the soap she used. Thanks for sharing that precious memory!

Another fine poem, Gypsy, and I'm sorry your mother died--that would be a hard enough thing for an adult, but as a ten year old? I can't imagine what you went through

Hello Gypsy :)
I enjoyed reading your Tanka.
It's funny how the scent of something can immediately take us back to a place or a person. It's the same with music... Visuals can be less easy to bring to mind. I love the heart in this.
Best wishes, Debra

I really enjoyed this simple, yet poignant, tanka. It speaks to the close and loving relationship that you shared with your mother. Lovely work. Thanks for sharing this piece.

I found your post to be beautifully written and presented. When we think of our senses, for some reason we forget smell. So many times, a smell can bring me back years in time.

Your poem is quite poignant and easy to relate to. The Speaker misses a loved one, but over time has forgotten her "face and soft caress." Only a scented scarf brings back the memories. The reader can almost smell that scarf tucked away in a "box of precious things." Rod

That's a horrid thing to happen to a 10 year old child. But yes, one of the strongest senses we possess is the olfactory sense, it quickly stirs memories one thinks are concealed, beautifully written Gypsy, I'm sad every time I read that about you, blessings Roy
