I believe we all have what we need, but most of us don't realize it or appreciate it.
Your sister desperately needs a great and understanding husband who is there for her, financially and emotionally.

You needed strength and humor to get through the "Dicks" years of your life. You have both in spades, and many more traits that I'm sure kept you sane.
Most of all, you are smart enough to have an 'attitude of gratitude'.

You are full of ssssssurprises today! Thank you Ryma.

I wouldn't trade places for anything! (Though I wish I'd had married Tom instead of the Dicks.) Cheers. LIZ

When we look at someone who appears to have it all, we really don't know what is going on inside. Your two Dicks might have been lacking, but at least you could get rid of them and be a lot happier. There are more dicks around than Toms. A few Harry's pop up now and again. Another really interesting post, Liz. :) Sandra xx

You are right, Liz. I'm thankful, too, for what I don't have. You did a good job with your examples. It sounds, though, that Anne is in a place where she is loved and cared for.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Wow Liz,

I was laughing hysterically OUTLOUD whilst reading the first portion of this. For instance..." I was miserably married to Dick (#1 and #2) for a total of 23 years." Me too! I may have topped by a couple of years.

Oh my! You flipped this story! Geez! I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's mental health issues. I think your use of "My sister has everything I don't have." twice is very effective.

We all count our blessings in different ways...it seems,

AnnaLinda

Great example in your sister. She would probably happy to see an end to her health problems, despite the loving husband and all that money. It does make us realize that we can be happy for good health and the knowledge that we are loved, even if we aren't wealthy. I think a lot of people are like you. They may be envious of others but smart enough to know that what they have may not be enough.

There's nothing like having good health. Although a good marriage is enviable. judi

It just goes to show, our lives have never meant to be, nor ever will be, the same as others, she probably envies your ability to be self sufficient...and feisty, depression wouldn't dare come nigh thy dwelling, for fear of rejection. But our job really, is to be grateful for what we have, not what we don't! Blessings Roy

Sadly, no one has a perfect life. That's why we see so many affluent celebrities and such killing themselves. Love and health are all that truly matters when it comes right down to it. And few are lucky enough to ever have both. Thanks for sharing.

A couple of months ago I posted about not enying celebrities--you probably read it.

I'm so sorry for Anne's health issues. Tom must be a saint to have supported her all of these years. It isn't an easy task. It sounds like there might have been some trauma she experienced as a teenager, perhaps, that she has kept secret all of these years? My mother was like that too.

I can understand your gratitude that you don't have the same health issues, but feel your pain for your sister.

No trauma preceded her sudden onset of anorexia, which spiraled to general misery.

I thought I had all I ever wanted: good job, own house, 16 year relationship, no kids other than a stepdaughter, but I was wrong. Something is still missing. Meanwhile, my sister is an epic shitshow. I haven't talked to her in four years and don't plan to. I don't even take the time to rub my success in her face because it's not worth speaking to her. Lol.
Sorry for your sister's troubles. Thanks for the reminder to be thankful for what I do have...and what I don't! :)
