kind man who loved his family
and his country, but he also
had a good sense of humor.

-I can relate to your ending
because my dad and mom are
buried in Arlington Cemetery.
-My dad was honored with the
flag that I still have.

You are very welcome and deserving of the stars and review, Jim. Actually, my father was in the Air Force, served 20 years as a mechanic on the big C-5 planes, and served another 20 in Civil Service with the same job all at Dover AFB. Unfortunately, I lost both of my parents in their 70's, but they both were in bad health, so it was a blessing.

I enjoyed this tribute to your grandfather, it sounds like he was a wonderful person. I enjoyed "isn't it just a wonder ... just look around!" which shows me he enjoyed the simple things in life. Thanks for sharing.

This is such a wonderful poem--a moving and vivid blend of literal and figurative language, answeet tribute to your hard-working, admirable grandfather. Vice-grips at beginning and end--like bookends--love that!

"I was eighteen when grandpa passed on ...
I stood man tall as I watched them --
ever so sacredly folded the flag into the symbolic tri-corned
shape -- thirteen times and then they laid that flag into my hand's.
Which I gripped vise-like and cried!"
I was 17 when my grandfather passed and I was handed the flag.

Wendy, I was so very keenly aware that his nature became my nurture as I grew older and I am beyond words for the Joy on my heart.
