That's a hilarious painting unless there is some social commentary that I'm supposed to get from it. Well, I got that from your poem. No one should feel like a potted plant in a relationship. Best wishes in the contest!

This is a sharp one-liner. A lot of thought obviously went into it, and the result is well worth the effort. I wish you all good luck in the one line poem contest.

Good write of just the one line, Bill. Monostitch can be fun and rewarding at the same time. LOL some spouses, both male and female believe they have potted plants though and treat them accordingly. Take care and thanks for sharing, my fried. Bob

This is a rather suggestive presentation that produces a rapt curiosity as to the true meaning, aside from the obvious pictures. I believe there is another underlying suggestion here. LOL

Potted plant to me means someone there to be seen, but not interacted with.

You come up with the strangest things, but I always enjoy them. I understand what you're getting at, but these days, I think we all feel like potted plants. However, I don't have some smothering or possessive to worry about. 8-)

Dear Bill, this excellent one line poem does exactly what is required. It reduces the world down to one moment in time to one relationship that is about to be terminated, By one person in a relationship, making it very clear that they are not willing to be the others, potted plant.
The analogy speaks volumes.

I do not recall smoking a joint, but I could just about swear that this image reminds me of the sex riddled dream I had the last time I got high. This lovely image is, to my addled mind, one of my greatest desires come to life. Sex without the need to converse.

Nowadays folks chew a gummy to get the potted plant effect.

The artwork really drew me in to read your poem, which is just as thought-provoking as the artwork! It makes me have to think about the qualities of a plant and how a person may or may not be similar to one. I don't think I'd want a "potted plant" companion - it sounds very boring, and I've always had trouble keeping them from dying. lol
Thank you for sharing!

Thanks, Susan. I first heard this term at the OJ trial when his lawyer told the DA that he would answering questions for his client as he wasn?t a potted plant sitting next to OJ.

I feel like I am missing something here. I'm sorry, but I'm not sure how to review this. Perhaps something more in your descriptive sentence or notes would be helpful. As it is, this doesn't seem poetic to me.

A monostich requires that the *poem* can only be one line.

    Sorry, but I can't ...
    be your potted plant.

    One line, internal rhyme.

I see you*re new. This is a contest entry so that*s why it has to be one line.
I was new once and screwed people over through my ignorance, so we live and learn.

This one-liner is great! I would love to say this to someone one day if I needed to. It is the essence as what is referred to in the dating world these days as a "casual" relationship where partners may move on or around to various partners. It may also indicate the need for someone to have their rightful individuality and independence. The artwork is a scream! When I first saw the artwork then the poem I laughed. Your sense of humor is wonderful.
