This story did make me smile and I thought your play on words were epic. I liked the way you showed his emotion and the way the kids reacted. Thank you for sharing and stay safe.

I remember a time when Johnny was in school and they told me he couldn't follow their games. I then proceeded to tell the teacher he was blind on his right side (where she had placed him) and he couldn't see her. I guess that was my thought process with this one. Smiles - Carol

As I read this, I thought his jokes were ok and his audience was probably too young to understand his jokes.
But then you hit it out of the ballpark, first by Jacob's not reading and misunderstanding the note and then to find out the kids were deaf and he was to "sign" for them to understand him.
Well done and I truly enjoyed the story.
Regards,
Mary

Jacob was funny and so is this story, with a great play on words. "Please sign." Jacob demonstrated each joke, but that's not official sign language. This is a "clever" story.

This is funny and poignant at the same time. It's a very clever premise for a story and you did a great job. Can you imagine what the kids would have been thinking?

Yes, because children seem to have their own sense of the world, even when it is different from outs. They most likely thought he was an idiot or some kind of mime. I appreciate your thoughts. Smiles to you - Carol

What an outstanding little story that should hit most of us right between the eyes as we have tendencies to not pay attention to the obvious. This is one of those times when I really wish I had a six! Thanks for sharing.

Glad you enjoyed it! I don't know exactly where it came from unless it was the anesthesia yesterday. But wherever, it was fun! Smiles to you, and a big thanks for the review. Carol

Ya think having a deaf son would have made me quicker to catch on huh?
I was having too much fun reading the flailing comedians desperate attempts to score with his young audience! "Please sign!" OH! This was too cute... Karenina

Oh, I'm sorry your son is deaf. At the moment I am too, but hopefully mine will be fixed in a few weeks. Have a cyst inside my inner ear. Dumb place for it to be! Imprisoned! Thanks for reading and loving my silly story. Smiles to you! Carol

He was totally deaf...had a cochlear implant that gives him some hearing in his right ear... Hope that cyst is removed and your hearing restored!--Karenina

Yes, you did make me laugh with this story. Classic! Wow, Jacob didn't realize he read the word wrong, but then the sign was not really coming through in a truthful way. LOL

Oh my!! That would be a tough audience. I hope he tried again with help. LOL I enjoyed reading your post and it puts a whole different outlook on the situation. I was wondering if they spoke a different language. They did sort of.

Carol,
Cute. But I guessed it right away so I was horrified for the poor guy the whole way through. Bless him. On the other hand - I'm not sure how he could go in there blind and sign those jokes -- now THAT would have been funny. hahahaha Thanks!
