A lovely ANZAC Day poem Kay (hope I'm remembering that right) and you've got the emotions that, like the Last Post, gives me goosebumps.
In particular, I loved the final verse,
A ghostly bugler, ghostly men
cheers,
valda

Thank you so much Valda. 'They shall not grow old as we are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them."

This is an excellent poem sharing the tale of a disaster that occurred by mistake. Why do such things happen? The situation reminds me of The Charge of the Light Brigade. I am glad you honored the memory of those fallen in this historical event. (I'm glad to be getting back into the swing of things after being away for several months due to my shattered knee cap. I have missed reading your work, Kay. Hope you are staying safe and well.)

Hello Janet, I wondered where you went. How did you do your knee in? Thanks for reading. Because of covid, we can't attend memorial services on 25 th. Like last year, we stand in our driveway with a lit candle. Love, Kay XX.

We have had so many things to adjust to. I can imagine it was still a beautiful community event seeing everyone's candles burning all together but in different spots. Before my surgery, I had to go and get tested. Now I have had both vaccines so I feel better, but not completely. I had slipped on some papers on the parquet floor in my office area and smashed three pieces off my knee cap. Not a good thing! I now have two big screws holding everything together. My last home therapy session is next week...that's big progress. I started out only being able to bend my knee 30% now it is up to 88%. Hopefully, next week, I will be in the 90%s. Stay safe and well, my friend. xoxo Janet

This is an outstanding poem, Aussie. You told a story that needed to be told and remembered. What a sad thing to land on the wrong cove due to faulty instructions. What an inspiring thing to be comrades again, to not hold a grudge that leads to further bloodshed.
I'm glad that I read this one.

Hello Debbie, Thank you for your kind review. Many mistakes were made during WW1. The British were in charge of our soldiers. In those days we were only colonialists under the thumb of the Empire. Blessings, Kay XX

There is an eery feel in your words as the reader sees the battle. There are not many WWI poems and it is a great theme for a poem. "Desperate to climb this unholy cliff" is a wonderful line.

hello my friend Elaine, Thanks so much for reading. It was supposed to be 'the war to end all wars,' then Hitler came along. Hope you are well. Love, Kay XX

Nicely told dear Aussie. I so enjoy reading from you of late because you have embraced some important subject matters, yet held your poetic voice.
Bravo.

Hello my friend RG. Thanks for reading and yes, it was a dreadful mistake on the part of the British. We lost 2,000 men. During WW1 we were under the thumb of the British Empire and they gave the orders.
Hope you are well . Blessings, Kay XX

You are truly the educator poet historian. I appreciate the lessons you provide in your poetry and in your author notes. For me, the most profound thought is, "Hand in hand with enemy men...Comrades now in death-friends again." A beautiful thought.

You did a great job with your tribute to those men of WW1, Aussie. I have read several poems in the past about this day, and each one is special as this one is too. Your presentation is great--the image, the color scheme, the rhymes, and your excellent message including your author notes.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you for remembering the slain. I had no idea that this had even happened. We never learned about it in my school in Ohio when I was growing up. Or, if perhaps we were taught it, I never grasped it unfortunately. I especially liked the last paragraph. Well done.

Hi Tom, Thanks for reading. Yes, it was a terrible fopar on the part of the English generals. Sending our boys to the wrong place. Blessings, Kay XX

Your poem is vividly descriptive and so moving. Wars and death become history, but remnants are left in hearts and memories. The losses are especially grievous when they came about through a horrendous mistake!
