This poem, Kettle Drums, uses this, unknown to me, metric delineation which is a tic off either anapestic or dactylic. It seems to be identified through both meter and phrasing.

Thanks Bill. This is my first attempt at amphimacer meter, and I think I hit a snag or two. But, it was fun to try. :)

What a wonderful way to demonstrate poetic meter. The last two lines of the first stanza are incredible. I don't know how to get to 150 characters without repeating myself. This was a real pleasure to read.

The artwork is a good match for the words. I like the mono rhyme stanza that seem to state the the drums and the poetry have a hypnotic effect
Keep writing and stay healthy.

-Great image, Melissa.
-Thanks for sharing
about the meter.
-Kettle drums is a good
way to use it.
-I like how you incorporate
the meter with the beat of
the drums. I can understand
how you would "be overcome
with this beat!"
-Well done.

This work has reached the exceptional level

Originally war horses carried these huge drums into battle. The sound of the drums told the enemy 'we are coming' in a big way. Good that you had a try at the drums (helps with covid cabin fever) don't know about the neighbors though. Hee, Hee. K XX

You nailed the meter, although it is not my favourite, I thought this meter brought the sound of the drums to my ear, that untuneful repeat of a constant drum in monotone. A magical write, clever meter and these poems teach us all about meter, much enjoyed, you have learned so much about meter Melissa, it shows, love Dolly x

You mastered the beat of this unusual metric poetry format. Three beats each...I read your piece out loud and it worked like a charm! Kettle drums are so much fun to listen to and the photo you chose shows them glistening and as shiny and new. I understand that the pedals at the bottom of each kettle drum are used to stretch the skin of the drum to increase or decrease the tonal quality and timbre, of the drum's sound.
They can make such thunderous sounds!
Thank you for showing us a new format to try in regard to meters.

    Hello Melissa.
You did an excellent job with this newfangled meter. The boom, boom, boom of the kettle drums suited the meter perfectly.
    Have a great day,

This would be a challenge to write and still make sense. However, the beat is fun to read. You did very well with this piece. Classes obviously paid off! Thanks for introducing it to the rest of us.

How shiny the kettle drums look in the picture. Great work with the meter. It's fun to see something different. It really works with the kettle drums subject, and you can feel the drums, thrumming along. The beat of music or a poem can make you want to start moving along with it. judi

Hi Judi. Thank you... I learned about this metric form in meter class last year... thought I would dust it off...it is a challenge to stay in that beat. Whew! Much appreciated.
