Great witness of the pain from a fluke spot for the killer.
Why did he just shoot at people he didn't know? Who gave
him the right to own guns? These people lost their lives in
a moment for NO reason. Gun safety needs to begin now.

This affected my daughters since they go to Sprouts to buy
groceries. Do they need to buy a gun for defense? Why don't
the places have a gun sensor at the doors or police? So
many issues. Great awareness of this stupid shooting.

Thank you so much, flylikeaneagle, for your wonderful review and that six-star rating. What should/can be done? I don't have a ready answer. Many argue that enough laws are in place but are not being enforced. WHY NOT? I feel that weapons like the AK-47 should be banned from civilian use. But the NRA argues it's not the gun, it's the user. And Congress merely debates the issue and never acts. Rod

"Boulder City Massacre" expresses the frustration of many of us. Sometimes its hard to go on about our lives, and when we do, something reminds us of what happened. Then, moving on feels wrong. Waiting for the next one.

You are absolutely correct. Where I live, it doesn?t take much to remind me of ?what happened.? Nightly violence is chronic; innocent victims die by the score. At least one child is killed every single night. Whoops! I?m venting again. Thank you for your review.

A different take on the necessary words - however animals do not usually kill in cold blood for no reason. They generally kill to satisfy their needs or those of their young. Human behaviour in killing randomly is worse than animals. However you make an excellent point in your worthy entry. Good wishes.

You are so right to seethe! I can't believe that nothing is done about gun control despite the increasing gun violence of late. They had the gall to say of the killer in Atlanta that he was just "having a bad day."

Thank you for sharing, lyenochka. The DAILY gun violence in Chicago depresses me. Every day there are gang-related random shootings of cars on the expressway and car-jackings where drivers are shot if ihey don?t get out of the car. And last night a party bus was shot up with many wounded. And cops are being shot trying to do their jobs.

You used the three words required by the writing prompt to very effectively capture the essence of a recent tragic event that defies explanation in a civilized human culture. The artwork chosen to complement your piece heightens the sense of sadness such actions invoke. Thank you for this thoughtful statement.

How very sad is this horrible nightmare you write about. Our world hasn't been the same with so much violence taking place.
You did a wonderful job making your thoughts evident.
Best of luck in the contest.
Marie

Dear Mystery Writer,

This is the second poem I have seen in this contest, and to be honest, yours FAR surpasses the other - in style, content, presentation, etc.

But apart from that, it's just a great piece. It's something that is on our minds at the moment and it's handled really well. The words required were used beautifully and not just jammed in. Nice job - good luck - though I do not think you'll need much!

I don't know what king of gun control reforms you're looking for but if the ones on the books had been enforced this tragedy could have been avoided. Good luck in the contest.

One that very sick and deprived. I read were he had a history of anger and making verbal threats. That's usually how it starts. It looks like swift justice was done. But the carnage he left behind is incomprehensible and heartbreaking to us all. The policeman was married and a father of many, seven I believe. Ouch!!
Thank you for sharing,

Thank you for your compassionate review, Sally. Indeed, it?s the carnage he left that distresses me most.
