It is good to celebrate the existence of past tribes and hopefully these gatherings will return as the pandemic subsides. I enjoyed your final line here, it made me smile, love Dolly x

You have captured so much of the culture of the aboriginal people in so few words! This was a delight to read and the photo brought it all home. Using names and other aboriginal words makes it all come alive. Superb in my book.

You did a great job with your contest entry, Aussie. The picture plus your well-chosen words tell a great story. Your lines read smoothly with good rhymes, smooth flow, and great message. You highlight the Native tribe's custom well. I did not know of this tree.
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes.
Respectfully, Jan

G'day Jan, So pleased you liked the story/poem. One reader looked up the Bunya nut and you have something similar in the States. Cheers, K. XX

An interesting and well-written entry for the Share a Story in a Poem contest. I looked up a picture of the Bunya nut. Reminds me of the huge Jackfruit.

Have a great weekend!

I have a degree in cultural anthropology and the Aborigines were the first group of people I studied, so your words have meaning to me. I was unaware of the Bunya nut which sounds like quite the important part of this culture. Excellent poem that teaches the reader.

I am pleased you have insight into culture, I hope you know some about my indigenous first Australians. Yes, the Bunya nut was important way back when the tribes weren't under the thumb of the whites who stole our country. I guess it is parallel to how your indigenous were treated. Land stolen and put on reservations, wrong foods and many died from the white man's influenza? The Govt. here tried to pacify us by making Sorry Day it doesn't mean a damn thing. Blessings, Kay XX

Hi Melissa, I thought to share our indigenous fun with you? Hope I didn't confuse you with language. Across Australia we have 10,000 dialects and this can cause big problems. Love, Kay. xx

Good day, Aussie!
How I loved your "share a story in a poem!"
I smiled throughout.
I also read your offering aloud = what beautiful, rhythmical language telling a most meaningful and delightful story.
Loved the ending:
She is Elder of the tribe, age has left it's (its) mark
After picnic, old lady revered, snoring in the dark

Thank you for sharing!

G'day Diane, So pleased you enjoyed. I have 15 chapters on The Dreamtime (for young folks) all about our aboriginal ways. Haven't added to it, been too busy snoring in the dark . LOL. K. XX

Hello Kace, this is really well written. You wrote as they would speak which I thought was very clever. The story was interesting and the picture is lovely. Good luck in the contest. Warm regards Dorothy xx

I loved reading your notes about the corroboree. Australia is a fascinating country which like Africa still retain original flora and fauna.
The poem is fun to read with rhyme scheme.
I am sorry for delayed reading of your poems
