Oh my goodness. This poem had me in stitches. How you are able to combine eloquence with hilarity is beyond me--what a gift you have! I thought the poem started out quite strong, was weaker in the middle, and ended strong. I think you should strengthen some of the middle parts (e.g., Stanza 6 that starts, "You know my dear chair"...and Stanza 7 that starts, "It's true chair, I'm cheap"). You are 95% the way "there" with your dear old chair poem. Great job and good luck with the contest! :)

This is very amusing and I am still laughing, I thoroughly enjoyed your jaunt with your old chair and how it struggled to survive, how useful it used to be and how you made your fond farewell when it died, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Hello Melodie,
Thanks for the review and for the blessing especially. Don't we all need that right now? May the Lord bless you and yours as well.

A story filled with sentiment, I would like to see your stanzas levelled out a bit- consistent in lines and syllables, a wonderful journey through the life of this chair, I can see why it may not have been suitable on the boat, best wishes for your contest****kahpot

Thanks for your review kahpot. Yes, the chair just wouldn't work any more, much to my disappointment. Have a wonderful day.

This is what odes are for, to sing the praises of beloved objects like Grecian Urns and Old Chairs.
Here's a thought. Fit your seat with a hinge and then oil it.
Cut a hole in the middle. I am sure that won't spoil it
It would then keep you comfy when sat on the toilet.
On such legs as remain you could thread toilet rolls
For the use of yourself and those other poor souls
caught out and caught short. They would thank you, old chap,
for providing a comfortable seat for a crap.

I found this poem absolutely entertaining and was giggling through each line I read. You cleverly expressed the emotional attachment between you and the chair. Love the photo of the beat-up chair. A most wonderful contest entry.

Thanks so much for the kind review. I loved that chair. It was the right height to see out the boat window and if I came in and sat down on it with fish slime or blood, it wouldn't matter. It's funny how we get attached to inanimate objects. Thanks again. Have a blessed day.

And, I have 10+ year old shirts with holes in them I still wear and will not let go of.

Such a lovely poem, and a ballad dedicated to an old chair, though beaten iirs fair, I read it o my wife and she chortled with glee, but she did nearly pee, thaennshe declared..."excuse me." Beautifully written, rhymed and with such flair. Well done, good job, blessings Roy

Thanks so much Roy. I'm not a poet, but the whole incident with the chair somehow came together for me. Blessings to you as well.

Delightful whimsy--so witty and clever, rife with wry humor and jaunty rhyme--if this doesn't get a prize I'll be PISSED. Perfect pic for the theme!

Thanks again Elizabeth, you're on a roll. I can only hope that the stories will get more exposure. I appreciate your input gal.

Great ode to an old friend, while you lament that all things deteriorate over time. The chair could be a metaphor for our reluctance to give up the comfortable in favor of the "new." I hope your son-in-law can work some magic on your comfortable old friend.

Hi Susan-
Thanks for commenting. It's kind of foolish I guess to put so much value on an inanimate object, but I know what I like and it seems like replacements are never as good.

This Ode to My Chair brings the reader through this back-sided affair with the long living chair which sadly had to finally give up its seat.
