I love the allegience you have to this chair. It is so difficult to part with the comforts of a well used item-a char, an article of clothing et al. All the best to you.

Thanks so much for commenting. It is difficult to part with the familiar, even an inanimate object. I'm not sure why.

TB Botts,

This is the funniest poem I have ever read! Oh my gosh! Ode to your chair!
You were supposed to go outside and take a picture...is your chair as far as you got?? Too funny!

Is that due to your large "derriere" or slab of meat? I mean I had a blast reading this!

This was funny about 3 legs left...I thought 'sweat' was coming there instead of "swear"(for the rhyme)...But, swear is more realistic.

"And then when you broke I felt kind of blue
But I didn't fret, nor did I cry or or swear
For there were still three legs on my wonderful chair"

It reminds me when I bought a little chair at a thrift shop...With a "blue" cushion...one leg was very weak...luckily I not only have a patient husband, I have a handy husband.

I was hoping your son-in-law could save your ugly beloved chair. I'm despaired by your sad ending.

Great free form poem with rhyme and humor.

Anna

    Hi Anna-
I 'm so glad you enjoyed the poem. I enjoyed writing it, but I would have enjoyed having the chair still even more. It's hard to find a chair that is tall enough to see out over the bow of the boat. It wasn't all that comfortable of a chair, but I'd had it for years and had grown accustomed to it. Thanks so much for commenting.

You bring that old chair to life in this ode and we readers feel as sorry to see it go as you are. Your humor makes this poem a most enjoyable read. Rod

Thank you Rod, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wish I still had the chair, but alas, all good things must come to an end. Thanks so much for commenting. Have a good day.

T B Botts:

Your poem was reminiscent of "Oh, Captain, My Captain" as it began. I have never read such a wonderful tribute to something that is inanimate, but it is obvious your captain chair served you well. Good luck in the Take A Photo Poetry contest.

Thank you so much, you're very kind. I do miss that chair. It wasn't the most comfortable thing I've ever sat in, but at least I could could see over the front of the boat when I sat in it.
