Marvelously cynical. I must confess that I love the royals even though I know you're right. I just love the image of the queen clutching her purse.
I hope you don't mind if I rework one of your verses to make it scan better. This poem would be a ten with better rhythm.
Friends, consume your fish and chips.
Toast Meg and Harry all the day.
(Warm stout for stiffened upper lips.)
Just keep 'em there, not here. O.K?
I love that last line, but I think Meghan and Harry are here to stay.

I like your changes. Wish we had had this chat before. I might have scored better. But, some things are just fun to write and this one was! I feel sorry for the Queen. She is pure class and dedication, but surrounded by a few clowns. Poor Harry. Someday he will wake up and discover all he has lost.

I loved this. The queen must despair with choices her children (Andrew) and grandchildren (Harry) are making. I don't normally get involved in royal gossip, even though I am English and have huge respect for our queen who has devoted all her life to duty, country and commonwealth. She normally just goes through life quietly getting on with things. I did not watch the interview (by choice). If you are having family problems, the best way to resolve them is privately, not to go out in the middle of the street with megaphone and declare to everyone within hearing distance what those problems are. People don't want to hear about it. (Unless they have nothing else interesting going on in their lives) Harry is a broken soul and he has latched onto Meghan who is his guiding light. I am not sure she is leading him down the right path, Such a shame, as the brothers were so close before. Love the line 'Both must shudder, "What's bloody next?' I dread to think !! :-)

So glad you enjoyed my poem. I feel sorry for the Queen, but I find her "Court" amusing - very much like our own, indeed. Oprah does what Oprah does and these narcistic people were willing victims!

I agree, Mystery Author. I have not watched, nor intend to watch, any of the stupid drama. They need to deal with all that stuff in private. And as for Oprah, well as they say, 'money speaks.' It will interesting to see if she has any backlash. Why did she not produce this on her own network. One word--money--$$$$$$$ x 1 mil each = $7 million. You are right about more important item to focus on rather than wanna-be royals. Your contest entry is in great form. Your lines flow smoothly with good rhymes and great imagery. Best wishes.
Respectfully, Jan

Ah, so nice to hear from a lady who thinks not only of the poetry, but also of the politics of the writing. Indeed, we have heard more than enough of Royal "stuff" and let Oprah be Oprah - never watched, never will.

I never watched O, and never will either.

Neither did I watch O or much of it on the news, but the jist of it is hard to avoid!

Although the media focus on this story, you too. I like what your said.
"English friends, eat your "Fish n' Chips",
Watch Meghan and Harry all day.
Shout a warm stout for your stiff lips,
But, keep 'em there, not here, O.K.?"
You deserve a Five....
Thanks for sharing.

A 5? A 5? Why not a bloody 8?
I always write so good, but this one was great!
Oh well, your welcomed 5 will keep my humility
And keep me writing awful poems. Hey, that's me!
Thanks for stopping for stopping by. God Save The Queen!
